SAP Analytics Cloud is an analytics application running on SAP Cloud Platform. It provides BI, planning and predictive capabilities. SAC is available on two different tenants, Neo and Cloud Foundry. In this blog post we will be covering more details on Neo and Cloud Foundry and the migration process. Below are the topics covered.

  • Cloud Foundry Environment

  • Why to Migrate from Neo to Cloud Foundry

  • Difference between Neo Tenant and Cloud Foundry Tenant

  • How to identify the SAP Analytics Cloud Tenant

  • How to migrate from Neo to Cloud Foundry

Cloud Foundry Environment

The Cloud Foundry environment is a part of the SAP Multi-cloud foundation. The multi-cloud foundation comprises three different environments: The Cloud Foundry environment, the Kyma environment, and the ABAP environment.

Cloud Foundry is an open source PaaS technology which can run on a variety of IaaS services. It uses a container based architecture that enables developing and deploying applications in any language and lets you choose from different runtimes and backing services.

Why migration to Cloud Foundry

SAP took the strategic decision for SAP Analytics Cloud as for many other services to stronger focus on the development on top the Cloud Foundry Environment. One important reason for that is the higher scalability in provisioning data centers around the globe. The large providers are extensively growing their footprint in the market, that makes it more flexible for you as a user of SAP Analytics Cloud to find an appropriate data center. While currently only AWS is supported for Analytics Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Alibaba Cloud are on our roadmap for the near future.

The below difference highlight on the reasons to move to cloud foundry tenant.

How to identify the SAP Analytics Cloud Tenant

If the tenant id is visible as a part of the SAP Analytics Cloud URL, then SAP Analytics Cloud is hosted on the SAC Neo environment.

If the tenant id is not visible as a part of the SAP Analytics Cloud URL, then SAP Analytics Cloud is hosted on the SAP Cloud Foundry environment.

How to migrate from Neo to Cloud Foundry

There are two ways to Migrate objects from Neo Tenant to Cloud Foundry

1. Migration by backup and recovery by SAP

This approach will move everything that´s included in your SAP Analytics Cloud Neo instance by taking a backup on Neo and restoring it on the Cloud Foundry environment with a contract with SAP.

2. Manual Migration

In this approach the existing functionality of importing and exporting of objects in employed. This approach can also be used to backup objects, transfer content between deployments, or store objects in local machine.

This included mainly two steps. Follow the links given below.

  1. Export Objects from SAC

  2. Import Objects to SAC
