If you have a list of data that you want to group and summarize, you can do this easily in the Prepare room of Lumira. We do not have to go back to the data source to create the new groups nor use Pivot tables like in Excel. Once we define the Groups we can also use it for building Hierarchies !

There are two methods to Group,

1) by Selection

2) by Range

Both these options are available from the Data Actions panel which appears after you select a dimension. Located on the right side of the application and sometimes you would need to scroll to the end to find it  .

1) Group by Selection

Used when the values are discrete in nature or if there are less values that need to be grouped.

2) Group by Range

Used when the values are continuous in nature or if there are many values that need to be grouped.

Group by Range can used for Date fields as shown above and for Numeric fields as shown below,

In both these cases, there will be a new column that would be created with the new groups.

For detailed instructions to Group data, please refer to the link Create groups: SAP Lumira 1.28 - YouTube

Hello,

Thanks a lot for the great article!

I have a question on a Group by Range function - as I see resulted column has an alphabetical sorting, which is not really great when you dealing with numbers.

Please see attached picture, I put the right numbers on bars - but I have no idea how to keep them sorted by interval number.

Hope you could help to clarify it

Hi Konstantin,

Thank you for the feedback. Please post this question on a different thread in the forum. I would be able to answer it better and can be accessed by others also.

Thank you,

Hi Konstantin,

Not sure if you were able to resolve this issue. But a simple step would be to use the Replace function in the Prepare room to get your desired results.

Please let me know if there are any questions or comments.

Thank you,

Varun Anand

Hi

Is it possible to specify the range interval manually as opposed to SAP generating these.

For example we have a column with ages and want to group them by specific intervals:

0 - 18

19 - 30

31 - 40

41 - 50 etc

Regards

Mark

This would be possible using custom formulas (dimension based) : if-then-else statements.
