ERP 6.0 upgrade to EhP7 - FATAL ERROR Unterminated word in""

Thought of sharing an upgrade issue I faced this week.

Scenario:

System                 : ERP 6.0 upgrade from EhP6 to EhP7

Database version   : HANA 1.0 revision 80

Upgrade tool         : SUM 1.0 SP10 (SUM10SP10_3-20006543.SAR)

Upgrade phase      : Step 5.5 PREPROCESSING, phase “MAIN_SHDIMP/READPUTTB_REST”

Error faced:

*** FATAL ERROR: Unterminated word in '"'

Last command in log file SAPup.log is

'/usr/sap/<SID>/SUM/abap/bin/SAPup stdout=/usr/sap/<SID>/SUM/abap/log/SAPup.out rootdir=/usr/sap/<SID>/SUM/abap uaport=4240 restart=3'

Root Cause

Either due to SUM timeouts and/or restart(s), file CONPUTTBSHD.TAB under folder ...SUM/abap/mem/ was corrupted; the last line was incomplete.

Resolution:

Thanks to erick.acostaflores's post in http://scn.sap.com/thread/1403180

The corrupted (last) line in file CONPUTTBSHD.TAB was replaced by corresponding entry from CONPUTTBSHD.SAV.

As you could see from situation mentioned by Erick and mine, this error is independent of which tool you use for upgrade, EHPI or SUM.
