This article is about how to derive the Asset Net Book Value (NBV) in SAP BW system. This NBV calculation is based on the SAP standard extractors in S4HANA system. It is assumed that Standard SAP extractors are installed in S4HANA system and SAP BW system is having dataflow is setup ready to ETL these SAP extractors.

S4HANA Implementations steps:

Since the S4HANA system is having balance carry forward functionality for Assets transactions, it has been easier from BW side to utilize the “**bleep**” as opening balance of any Asset for the year.

Similar to Carry forward balance transaction type “**bleep**”, there is also Planned Depreciation transaction type “PLN”. In the starting of the year itself if you want to report entire years NBV, you can use “PLN” in the yearly reporting requirement from 0FI_AA_11.

For the monthly breakdown of the “PLN” depreciations, one can refer SAP KBA 614804 - 0FI_AA_12: Changing/suspending depreciation simulation which talks about maintaining BWOM_SETTINGS in S4HANA as below.

BWFIAASIM = 0 => Simplified procedure for depreciation simulation
BWFIAASIM = 1 => Exact procedure of the depreciation simulation
BWFIAASIM = 2 => No simulation of the outstanding depreciation

BWFIAASIM = 0 was default setting in older systems prior to S4FIN_100, new versions of S4HANA doesn’t support. New system must have either “1” or “2” set in mentioned table. Value “1” is very calculation heavy and impacting performance. SAP doesn’t suggest to use “1” unless business is having strong use-case of monthly “PLN” BW reporting requirements.

BW Implementations steps :

Below is the one by one Restricted/Calculated Key Figures illustration to derive NBV using fields of SAP standard extractors for Depreciation area '01'.

The Net Book Values is summation of above RKF/CKF at BI Query level.

In case of Asset History Sheet for 3 year, BW model must have 3 years of periodic/monthly historical data. Also change in the above RKF/CKF for selecting Time Characteristics instead of Fiscal Year, one should consider using Fiscal Year Period with proper selection operator like EQUAL TO, LESS-OR-EQUAL TO.
