Analysis Roadmap Updates from ASUG Webcast Part 1

ASUG had a webcast on the Analysis clients today, mostly about BusinessObjects Analysis, MS Edition for Office.

Overview

Figure 1 shows the Analysis "Family"

Analysis Office is integrated with MS office family – Excel & PowerPoint

Design Studio is the web application for dashboards.

Analysis OLAP Web Client, Edition for OLAP > the development is mostly complete

Design Studio can consume universes as shown in Figure 2.

Figure 3 shows a Power User – a controller to create his own calculations

You can use Analysis Office as a design environment for creating interactive workbooks to share with a business user – create buttons, etc.

You can also use it to provide guided navigation for a business user

You can use it for creating PPT presentations. It also supports BW Integrated Planning.

Figure 4 shows there are no changes to the BEx queries.

Conversion from BEx Web is planned for Design Studio.

BEx tools are in maintenance mode per Figure 4.

Analysis Office

Been on the market for a few years

Latest release of Analysis Office 1.4 was released last year

It included a minor release for LCM and SSO

It added interoperability with Design Studio

Figure 6 shows scheduling. It does not support prompts – when will this occur – SAP is trying to get resources to do this in the short term.

Figure 7 shows it is very complex project now – on the right side

They are changing access to HANA. Today use ODBC approach via SQL to HANA and this has limitations

They decided to directly access HANA engine

This new approach will have SSO to HANA

It includes catching up with BW – regarding unified planning model

Table design – add empty rows, columns, change styles for specific cells

Comments API are coming in future direction

Lumira work – for Lumira Server – store Analysis workbooks on Lumira Server

Figure 8 shows the combined planning model

Unified Excel Client is superset of Analysis & EPM Excel client, with move to single Excel w/ 2 ribbons to feel like the same client
