Symptom: You are unsure of the number of capacity units (CU) required to activate Object Store in Business Data Cloud (BDC).

Requirements: N/A.

Resolution: The minimum capacity units required to activate Object Store in BDC is 4150.05 CU (128 GB of SAP HANA memory). You can simulate this number in SAP Business Data Cloud Capacity Unit Estimator

1) Open SAP Business Data Cloud Capacity Unit Estimator

2) Select your Hyperscaler and Data Center

3) Click "Add" and double-click "SAP Datasphere"

4) Increase memory in "Compute" card until we have 128 GB

5) Add 1 block (minimum) in "Object Store Storage" card to activate this feature

6) Adjust parameters according to your needs in the simulator

7) View the final CU estimator for your business case

Unfortunately, that is not entirely accurate.

There is also a need to account for Compute Block-Hour and API Requests.

I enabled Object Store for testing purposes, allocating the minimum required resources: 1 TB of storage and 1 hour of compute time. To my surprise, simply enabling the service and creating a test space (for SAP HANA Data Lake Files) triggered messages indicating that the limits for API calls and compute hours had already been exceeded.

What’s particularly interesting is that I had no intention or need to use any APIs at this stage, yet over 5,000 API calls were registered. Why?

SAP needs to be more transparent and provide better documentation regarding this behavior.

I opened a ticket/incident to investigate, and support informed me that some scripts are executed by default, which may explain the unexpected consumption.

Hello @FernandaFroelich

will your Blog series also explain how to license the Intelligent Apps and with which metric it will be paid?

In addition, how does it look like in SAP for me (screenshot), when you purchased the "Customer-Managed Data Products" with the total amount of CUs available?

Thanks and BR, Martin

@RafaelBizzotto , I also agree with your thoughts.

SAP is currently providing detailed information regarding consumed Capacity Unit by Object Store. You can go to System Monitor -> Capacities to see Total CU by daily and  detailed informations(API calls, Compute...etc)  with each part of object store CUs by using download CU metrics as CSV.

But, I think we need much more detailed information with level of consumed CU, for instance, which file table consumed how many size in object store, how many compute was used in each activities... and so on.

it would be not easy to use object store due to unexpected CUs that could be consumed by Apache Engine, API calls .. and so on.

Thanks and Regards, Youngseol

Hello @RafaelBizzotto and @Zerosnow ,

Thank you so much for your feedback! You're totally right, I will add the information on Compute Block-Hour and API Requests to this blog asap. To differentiate from the original version, I am going to add in the first line of the blog "Updated on x date".
