One of the benefits of using SAP BTP ABAP Environment is that updates and upgrades are applied by SAP to the systems in quite a high frequency and close to the corresponding release time.
Find the latest known schedule of Major Upgrade Windows and Weekly Maintenance Windows for 2025 in this blog post.

Major Upgrade Windows

As in 2024, the SAP BTP ABAP Environment will have 4 Major Upgrade Windows in 2025. These 24 hours of potential system unavailability are used to upgrade the systems to the next major version.
The events for the Major Upgrade Windows are harmonized between all SAP Cloud Products and scheduled for the following weekends:

Depending on the data center region, the 24 hours downtime will start/end at:

  • MENA: FRI 1 am - SAT 1 am UTC
  • APJ: FRI 9 pm – SAT 9 pm UTC
  • Europe: SAT 4 am – SUN 4 am UTC
  • Americas: SAT 10 am – SUN 10 am UTC

The upgrade of the free tier systems takes place on the Thursday before the respective weekend.

Weekly Maintenance Windows

Potentially every weekend, the SAP BTP ABAP Environment could use a downtime of 4 hours, to apply database updates, Hotfix Collections and other changes.
Depending on the data center region, the 4 hours downtime may start at:

  • MENA: FRI 5 pm UTC
  • APJ: SAT 2 pm UTC
  • Europe: SAT 9 pm UTC
  • Americas: SUN 5 am UTC

The update of the free tier systems takes place on the Thursday before the respective weekend.
The following events for the release 2505 are planned as Weekly Maintenance Windows in 2025:

  • Hotfix Collection 2 for Release 2505 (only for systems which belong to the pre-upgrade)
    May 3rd – 4th, 2025
  • Hotfix Collection 3 for Release 2505 (only for systems which belong to the pre-upgrade)
    May 17th – 18th, 2025
  • Hotfix Collection 4 for Release 2505 | May 31st – June 1st, 2025
  • Hotfix Collection 5 for Release 2505 | June 21st – 22nd, 2025
  • Hotfix collection 6 for Release 2505 | July 5th - 6th, 2025

Client Safety of CDS and AMDP

To support client-safe implementation please read Client Handling in ABAP - SAP Community for an overview.
Technical background is provided in SAP Note 3472859 - AMDP: How to make AMDP methods client-safe.

Please adopt these recommendations. SAP will turn today's warning messages into error messages with the upgrade to release 2508, which is planned for August 2025.

Hello SAP,

February 26th, 2025 is a Wednesday, not a weekend date. Can you please confirm it is correct?

Hi @AndreasWehry , in this blog I can see information regarding SAP BTP ABAP Environment and SAP BTP ABAP Environment Free Tier. What about SAP BTP ABAP Environment Trial?

Hello @AndreasWehry ,

Actually it's not that only am facing this issue, it seems many are not able to access the BTP Trial ABAP Environment after the upgrade. And now even I am not able to create a Fresh Account and fresh Service Instance, its giving error while setting up the ABAP Environment,

Other people facing this issue:

https://community.sap.com/t5/technology-q-a/failed-to-get-service-instance-from-adt/qaq-p/14104261

https://community.sap.com/t5/technology-q-a/btp-trail-abap-instance-unavailable/qaq-p/14105140

on top of this I have checked with 4 of my team members and all confirmed that BTP Trial ABAP Environment is indeed not working.

Thanks,

Sijin

Seems like the trial system is still not available. Is there some kind of status page or even official communication on it? To me the system now seems very unsuited for trainings with fixed time frames.

@fabianlupa you are correct! It's still not up after the planned downtime Window.

As on 20 May 2025,

There is indeed an outage with the existing BTP Trial ABAP Service Instances and as updated by @Andre_Fischer over the thread Error occurring while accessing SAP BTP Cloud trial account(Unexpected response code: 503) , there is maintenance activities taking place on one of the shared ABAP trial systems in the US region.

As a corrective action re-initiate the ABAP Trial Setup Booster as a solution mentioned over the response by Andre.

Thanks,

Sijin
