One of the most frequently received feedback since SAP Analytics Cloud compass' general release is the desire to simulate directly with data from SAP Datasphere. With the coming Q4 2025 release, this will become reality.
The benefits are obvious: The support of seamless planning setup including live version connections will mean that users can do away with data redundancy and streamline data management workflow with the confidence that the compass simulations performed are always based on a single source of truth, the latest data, even if it is residing in SAP Datasphere, at any point in time. And as we all know: When it comes to simulations, this level of confidence is pivotal for the usefulness of the insights generated.
To learn more about seamless planning and the setting up of a live version connection, I highly recommend checking out @Max_Gander's blog post with use cases, benefits and FAQ: Unlocking the Next Chapter of Seamless Planning in SAP Business Data Cloud with Live Versions. Once that is all set up, compass users will be able to perform Monte Carlo Simulation directly on the live version. Below you can see an example of creating a simulation with the version "Plan00", a live version. You can see there is basically no difference between the handling of scenarios based on a live or native version, and there is free choice to base your scenarios on any of the available versions.
An important detail here: Users will also be notified upon data changes in live versions. In the below example you can see that a change is made to the original data, a CSV file, which is then uploaded into the local table in SAP Datasphere, upon which the view for the live version is generated. When this change is deployed, compass will be able to detect the difference in baseline value and reflect the change in the driver list.
With the support for seamless planning AND live version connection, compass is enabling more flexibility in setup and shortening the time-to-insight to a greater extent than before.
