As businesses strive to make data-driven decisions, integrating data across different systems becomes crucial. Below we describe our approach of replicating SAP S/4HANA data into SAP HANA Cloud using SAP Datasphere. This process ensures that your business data is always up-to-date and readily available in SAP HANA Cloud, enabling you to gain critical insights and leverage advanced analytics using powerful SAP HANA Cloud engines.
The integration starts with extracting data from the ABAP Core Data Services (CDS) layer in your SAP S/4HANA system. CDS views in SAP S/4HANA provide a structured and efficient way to access and expose data, which forms the foundation of this data replication process. The access through the ABAP CDS layer and the ABAP Pipeline Engine absolutely ensures the semantical integrity of the replicated SAP S/4HANA business data.
A connection is then established between SAP Datasphere and your SAP S/4HANA system. If your SAP S/4HANA system is on-premises or a private cloud edition, the SAP Cloud Connector is necessary to facilitate secure communication. However, for the SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud, this connector isn't required.
Within SAP Datasphere, you configure a Replication Flow that defines how data is extracted from SAP S/4HANA and replicated to SAP HANA Cloud. This flow includes specifying the source objects (the CDS views), the target system (SAP HANA Cloud), and the structure in which data will be stored. Moreover, the Replication Flow offers flexibility in data transfer modes, allowing for various options such as initial full loads, delta loads, or scheduled periodic loads.
SAP Datasphere also offers monitoring capabilities, enabling you to track the progress of the replication process and ensure that data is flowing as expected. Any necessary transformations, such as data projection and mapping, can be applied within the flow to align the data with the target structure in SAP HANA Cloud.
Once the data is extracted and transformed, it is securely loaded into the predefined target tables within your SAP HANA Cloud instance, ready for further processing and analysis.
As this functionality have been available since some time, now we added two key deliverables: the mission and the booster, which further simplify implementation of such a replication scenario.
The Mission offers a step-by-step guide to setting up the necessary infrastructure and configuring the required settings across SAP S/4HANA, SAP HANA Cloud, and SAP Datasphere. The mission "Integrate SAP S/4HANA Data into SAP HANA Cloud leveraging SAP Datasphere" could be found on SAP Discovery Center here: https://discovery-center.cloud.sap/missiondetail/4418.
In the mission there is a project board containing details about how to complete every step needed for starting data replication.
The Booster deploys SAP Datasphere in your account by following a guided step-by-step approach. The booster could be found at your BTP Cockpit global account: <global account url>/boosters.
With the help of the Mission and the Booster, you can start replicating SAP S/4HANA data into SAP HANA Cloud using SAP Datasphere even faster.
