At SAP, we're committed to supporting our partners and customers in connecting the medical and financial aspects of patient care. We approach this by fostering interoperability, allowing healthcare providers to seamlessly integrate their preferred EMR or hospital information system with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, ensuring efficient data flow and enhancing overall operational efficiency. To demonstrate this, we've created a demo showcasing the integration between an EMR system and an SAP S/4HANA Cloud financial system.
Our demo illustrates an end-to-end business process, from patient admission to sending a dunning letter for late payment.
The process involves two main systems:
The SAP Business Technology Platform facilitates this seamless integration, primarily through SAP Health Data Services for FHIR and the SAP Integration Suite. Our approach is based on the industry standard HL7® FHIR®, making it compatible with various EMR systems.
A key feature of this integration is the minimization of sensitive patient data storage in S/4HANA Cloud through data masking.
We've prepared a 9-minute video demonstrating the system demos and explaining our integration approach. You can view it here.
The integration demonstrated uses existing SAP BTP services available to partners and customers which are
While we've created additional content like iFlows for data masking, partners can implement this integration today using a similar approach. To further assist and accelerate adoption, we plan to publish integration templates on the SAP Business Accelerator Hub.
It's worth noting that this integration scenario is closely tied to the transition to the cloud: Our demo used SAP S/4HANA Cloud private edition, which many customers are transitioning to or already use. We've focused on data privacy and security, demonstrating how to minimize data stored in S/4HANA Cloud.
We welcome your feedback on this integration approach. Additionally, we're considering creating a more detailed video covering the technical aspects of this demo. Would this be of interest to you?
Thanks a lot in advance for your valuable feedback!
