In November/2025, one of the largest logistics companies in Brazil embarked on a transformation journey by implementing and GOING LIVE with SAP Ariba Category Management.

The project represented a pioneering milestone in the country, introducing a new approach to strategic category management and reinforcing the organization’s commitment to innovation and operational excellence.

With complex processes and large-scale operations, the implementation was challenging — yet highly enriching in terms of shared knowledge and team collaboration.

Through well-defined phases and clearly established responsibilities, the project was executed smoothly, on schedule, and with strong engagement from both business and technical teams.

The Spend Data Sync integration marked a significant step toward analytical intelligence, with future plans to evolve into the Spend Control Tower. Additionally, the adoption of Guided Sourcing brings the organization closer to achieving the Triple Crown concept, expanding strategic impact and operational efficiency.

Artificial intelligence played a key role in accelerating the creation of initiatives and action plans, reducing response times and strengthening data-driven decision-making:

Feedback during testing and post go-live was consistently positive, highlighting how complete, versatile, and business-aligned the SAP solution proved to be. Within just two days after activation, plans were already underway for a ramp-up of new categories and broader stakeholder engagement.

The following key success factors were identified as essential to ensure effective implementation, alignment with business objectives, and long-term sustainability of the solution:

1. Governance

  • Clear definition of roles and responsibilities.

  • Governance model with decision-making and follow-up forums.

2. Data and Category Structure

  • Consolidated and accurately classified spend data.

  • Dedicated data specialist with business and analytical knowledge.

  • Appropriate level of granularity aligned with business needs.

3. Strategy and Methodology

  • Clearly defined and measurable objectives.

  • Analytical and collaboration tools integrated into the process as needed.

  • Customization according to the Category Managers’ daily operations and organizational context.

  • Engage in close coordination with the SAP Support Team.

4. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Involvement of the business areas during the whole project.

  • Collaboration among technical, business, and procurement teams in strategy development.

  • Continuous and transparent communication on results and next steps.

This project stands as a success story of how innovation, partnership, and a clear sense of purpose can transform the way organizations plan, negotiate, and manage their categories - since the solution was fully customized according to their business needs.

Category Management is not just a tool — it’s a new strategic mindset, and this journey marks the beginning of a promising future for category management in Brazil.
