Getting Started with Creating an SAP Fiori Elements App Based on an OData V4 RAP Service (free)

SAP Fiori elements streamlines the process of building SAP Fiori apps, saving you both time and effort and ensures that the apps look and feel like those that SAP ships with SAP S/4HANA. This new learning journey will guide you through building SAP Fiori elements applications from scratch using a RAP OData V4 service.  Before starting, we recommend that you have some foundational knowledge of ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP).

The course includes practical exercises to enhance your knowledge

This beginner-level learning journey is divided into two parts. First, you’ll use ABAP Development Tools (ADT) to work in the RAP backend, where you’ll learn to add ABAP CDS annotations, use virtual elements, and publish your OData V4 service. Next, you’ll create an SAP Fiori elements app in SAP Business Application Studio, using the list report page template. SAP Business Application Studio which is a part of SAP Build Code will be your development environment for the remainder of the training. You will use SAP Fiori tools which is a set of extensions for SAP Business Application Studio and Visual Studio Code. SAP Fiori tools optimizes the development process by providing intuitive graphical editors, intelligent code completion, and streamlined deployment, enhancing efficiency and productivity for developers.

Through the hands-on exercises, you’ll gain foundational knowledge of SAP Fiori elements and SAP Fiori tools. Each exercise includes a simulation and step-by-step instructions to guide you through creating and developing SAP Fiori elements apps based on a RAP OData V4 service, concluding in deploying the app to your trial SAP BTP account.

You’ll work within the trial account on SAP BTP, ABAP environment, configuring various app features such as flexible column layout, adding and editing of table columns, adding fields as data points to the object page header, configuring object page sections – to name only a few.  Finally, you’ll discover the benefits of using the flexible programming model to extend your SAP Fiori elements application with custom code.
