Have you ever wondered how to bring your apps onto the SAP Fiori launchpad? Let's dive into the recommended process:

ruth_groene_0-1744696488668.pngImagine you've got a new app ready to go. The first step is creating a tile for it. This tile needs to be assigned to a business catalog and a business role. Once that's done, users with the right business role can find the app through search or the App Finder.

If you also want the app to appear on your users’ pages, put the tile on a page, assign the page to a space and assign this space to a business role.

Too fast? Do you want to see this in motion? Then watch the following 5-minute-video:

Here's a summary of the steps in a little more detail, including tool names and two shortcuts:

1. Specify app details and create a tile: Start by accessing the Launchpad App Manager. Create a technical catalog, which is like a folder for your apps. Add your app details, including a tile.

2. Add tile to Business Catalog: Navigate to the Launchpad Content Manager. Create a business catalog or choose an existing one, and add the 'Tile/Target Mapping' for the app from step 1 to this business catalog.

3. Assign Business Catalog to Business Role: Use Role Maintenance (transaction PFCG) to assign the business catalog to a business role. This gives users access to the apps in that catalog.

Shortcut: In many companies, the business role maintenance is done by a specialized authorization expert who works mainly in the Role Maintenance app, as described in the video. If launchpad admins are authorized to perform this step, they can do it directly in the Launchpad Content Manager (client-specific):

Roles in FCM - Add Catalog to Role in ROLES Tab.gif

4. Create Space and Page: Set up a space and a page with the tile on it, to ensure that the tile appears on your users' pages.

5. Assign the space to the business role: Use Role Maintenance to assign the launchpad space to a business role, giving users access to the space.

Shortcut: If launchpad admins are authorized to assign a space to a role, they can do it directly in the Launchpad Content Manager (client-specific):

Roles in FCM - Add Space to Role.gif

6. Put the tile onto the page: In the Manage Launchpad Pages app, drag the tile/app onto your page, save, and refresh your browser. Users can now access the app from their launchpad.

And that's it! You've successfully brought an app onto the launchpad. Thanks for following along!

Hello @ruth_groene,

Could you please tell me if there is a method to copy/transfer a technical catalog created with Launchpad Designer to a technical catalog in Launchpad App Manager? Is there a plan to implement such a tool in the future? For example, there is an application /UI2/FDM_GTP “Create launchpad pages from groups” for creating pages from existing tile groups.

Best regards,
Costiantyn

Hello Costiantyn,
good news: yes, there is a tool for migrating technical catalogs created with Launchpad Designer to technical catalogs that can be managed with Launchpad App Manager. You can find a how-to description in the blog post SAP Fiori for SAP S/4HANA - Technical Catalog Migr... - SAP Community by Jocelyn Dart.
best regards

Hello @ruth_groene,

Not sure how that one slipped past me... temporary lapse in radar, maybe? Wow, it's been a while since I felt this level of embarrassment 😅
Thanks a ton for the link!

Best regards,
Costiantyn

Hi Costiantyn,

actually I'm glad that you asked - so we know that there's interest to move from Launchpad Designer to Launchpad App Manager and that our tool meets that need. And I got the chance to promote the migration blog SAP Fiori for SAP S/4HANA - Technical Catalog Migration - SAP Community - after all we want everyone to profit from future innovations which will be developed for that content model.

Best regards,
Ruth

Hi @bharanidharan

first of all: sorry for the late reply. Was the problem with displaying the video a temporary issue or does it still exist? Is it different if you try to open a direct link https://sapvideo.cfapps.eu10-004.hana.ondemand.com/?entry_id=1_1a3706f5 ? I have already used the external link but there may be some issues depending on client, browser, settings etc.

We plan to migrate the video to the learning.sap.com platform to ensure availability for everyone, but we have to shape the video before we can do that. I will let you know when the video will be available on learning.sap.com.

Best regards
Ruth
