SAP is committed to “meeting developers where they are” and recently SAP unveiled new MCP servers for SAP Build, demonstrating SAP’s dedication to that Vision.
By adopting these new MCP standards, developers can seamlessly extend SAP’s development capabilities into multiple development environments, ensuring flexibility and choice by enhancing popular agentic development solutions.
Now SAP is going even further, and I am happy to share that we have now released new extensions to the VS Code marketplace, marking what is sure to be just the beginning of a transformative journey.
With the expansion of SAP Build’s productivity tools available as VS Code extensions, SAP is shaping the end-to-end experience and empowering the professional developers to choose whatever tools suits them better while leveraging the power of SAP development frameworks, integrations and accelerators.
This extension will provide a central location for exploring and consuming services in a highly efficient and harmonious manner, enhancing both development speed and quality. This will be the local implementation of the well-known service center found in SAP Business Application Studio. The initial release focusses on the ABAP catalog and on-premise systems, supporting basic authentication and seamless integration with Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) applications. Next year we plan to add support for exploration and consumption of Data Products from SAP Business Accelerator Hub.
Keep in mind that you must also install the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model Tools extension to take advantage of CAP application integration.
SAP Build Full-Stack Extension Pack
This pack bundles all available tools for SAP Build full-stack application development. It will make it easier and faster for developers to find and install the tools they can use to enhance their end-to-end development experience. You can expect all forthcoming SAP Build Full-Stack productivity tools released by SAP, such as the Storyboard planned for release next year, to be incorporated into this pack.
SAP is investing in both, the improvement of the current onboarding experience with the full-stack pack and the release of ongoing innovation of development tools for the VS Code marketplace.
Looking ahead, SAP plans to provide seamless integration with SAP APIs and platform services, thereby optimizing the development experience for its community, and to release BTP extensions to the open VSX registry to make getting started with SAP Build development easier with other popular agentic development solutions, further enriching the diverse development ecosystem.
We are thrilled about the possibilities these new tools bring to the development community and look forward to witnessing the innovative solutions they will inspire.
Don’t miss the opportunity to be at the forefront of innovation and try out our new extensions now!
