SAP Alert Notification Service is a powerful service available on the Business Technology Platform (BTP) that helps you to monitors your applications and sends alerts when something goes wrong like an application crash so you can take immediate action.
Few things to which are required to setup beforehand:
Now Let's create and configure Alert Notification Service
Once Create, Make sure this configuration is enabled already within the instance parameters
There are few terms which is very important and are explained below:
Subscription will act as your entry point. It listens to all incoming events but only responds to the ones it’s configured for. Once a matching event is detected, it triggers the corresponding action
Open the ANS dashboard, follow these steps to begin monitoring application crashes:
Next, head over to the “Actions” menu from the left-hand panel in the Alert Notification Service dashboard. This is where you’ll define what should happen when your configured event like app.crash is triggered.
Select Action Type as Email and click on next
In the Actions menu, start by entering a name for your action. Then, specify the email address where you want to receive alert notifications and click on Create button
Note: After adding your email address to the action, you’ll receive a confirmation email. Make sure to verify it before moving forward - this step is essential to start receiving alert notifications.
Now That the Action Is Set, Let’s Create a Subscription
Next, head over to the “Subscriptions” menu from the left-hand panel in the Alert Notification Service dashboard.
Give some meaningful name and description and select your newly created action and condition as shown below:
Note: You might see a section called store-events in the dashboard. This was created for a different purpose, so feel free to ignore it during your setup - it’s not relevant to the current configuration.
From now on, whenever a service crashes within the same space where your Alert Notification Service instance is set up, you’ll receive an email notification, just like the one shown below.
Conclusion
Using SAP Alert Notification Service, we can now monitor services in real time. If any service crashes, we’ll receive instant alerts containing detailed information about the event.
