At past SAP and ASUG conferences, free water bottles were distributed to attendees. Not only is this expensive, they are often used once and then thrown away. To show an alternative, I will donate a membership to "Leave No Trace" for the first 5 people to answer this forum thread, on condition that you carry your bottle at the conference! Leave No Trace will send you a membership card and a water bottle. One of mine is shown in the following images:

If you aren't going to the conference, or aren't one of the first 5, consider supporting Leave No Trace directly via:

I've been a member for a few years, and helped Scouts in my local troop earn an award for their efforts, as well as presenting them with gift memberships. For current status, see:

p.s. you can carry the bottle on an airplane, but make sure it is empty at check-in!

What a great idea! We promote being green through our company and have recycle bins for both bottles and cans. Too bad that ASUG and SAPPHIRE do not ask the Orlando convention center to go green and offer at least recycling bins for the recyclables.
I really enjoy ASUG sessions and hope to see you there.

Glad to hear your voice and "meet" you here Greg. Public discourse and opinions can create change. Thanks for sharing yours.

Kathleen - Thanks! I've sent shipment confirmation by email; you can let me know how to work this out.
As of now, there have been just 3 replies for Orlando; Eddy - do you want a Leave No Trace membership? I found out I can donate direct through google for the next few weeks (cool). If so, instruct me via twitter DM, please.

All:
I am going to mark this thread as answered since the ASUG and Sapphire US conferences have ended for 2008. I did not receive as many responses as I would have liked, but that just wets my appetite (so to speak) for future challenges.
Look for Grumpy Old Man to appear on the Leave No Trace website ([lnt.org|http://www.lnt.org/]), look for Dick Hirsch carrying a reusable water bottle, and look for greener future conferences.
If you still want an LNT water bottle later, either visit their web site and join with a minimum (US tax deductible) donation, or drop me a line. I will help.
Thanks to those who responded!
Jim
