Hello nicowottke,
I'm curious about the exact functionality on how SFM calculates the carbon emissions for scope 1.
I know that for Purchased Materials (scope 3.1) SFM offers the possibility to map emission factors to the materials and based on the goods movements it calculates the emissions for the used materials of that period.
But how does it work for energy (like Natural gas or Coal) or other raw materials containing CO2 that is released during processing (like Limestone or Graphite) and thus are scope 1 emissions. Can you also assign scope 1 emission factors to those materials in SFM and based on actual usage in a period (also based on goods movements?) calculate the emissions? Or do you have to do the whole calculation of that outside SFM (in an excel) and import only the totals into SFM.
Thanks for any information & green regards,

Hello Erik,
Please check this blog,
CO2 handling was explained in the blog,
Hope this helps.

Hi Erik,
thanks for reaching out! Scope 1 emissions can be calculated via the modeled energy flow or via manual allocations, see more information here: Managing Facilities | SAP Help Portal.
For in-depth calculations, EHS-EM is recommended, see also the blog post that Satya shared. An integration from EHS into SFM is planned for Q3-23.

Hi Nico & Satya,
Thanks both for your reply. Nice to see that this functionality is available in EHS. On the other hand, that is again another license that would be needed for this and I think not all customers would be happy with this. It is also not exactly what I had in mind. I'm looking more for something integrated within SFM itself and that based on certain movement types or production orders, containing certain materials that emit CO2 when being processed, these emissions would be calculated and assigned to a company / plant / product. But I can imagine that could be complex and not very 'standardizable'.
Bytheway, Satya, maybe you know this as EHS expert: Can EHS EM be licensed separately, or is it always part of the whole ESH solution? Thanks for any info.
And thanks again guys!

Hello Erik,
EHS EM is now part of SAP Sustainability Control Tower Solution, a Separate license is required and mostly it depends on which version of SAP you are trying to integrate the EM with.
Better get in contact with SAP Sales people on this.
