Hello,
When migrating WM stock data to EWM decentralized solution in S/4HANA platform, what are all the steps to be followed from end to end. I know the LE-WM has provided transaction which would help to download and upload data. But once data is uploaded into EWM, what should one do with data in WM table. Do we have any standard program to delete the data? What will be the impact from the finance angle.
Our scenario is like this. Currently we have WM system with many many warehouses. We are moving one warehouse at a time from WM to S/4HANA-EWM decentralized system. So in this case some warehouse will be in WM and some warehouse will be in EWM for some time until all warehouses move to S/4HANA. When the data is migrated to EWM for a specific warehouse, still the old data will exist in WM table as it is. What should be done with the old data? Is there any standard process to manage the old data or custom development is required. If any one has handled this type of scenario, please share your thought

Hi,
The option we use in the migration class (which is only one of the options)
2. Move the complete stock with 562 to storage type 998 (all describing here standard pre-defined warehouse settings. 562 because it automatically proposes this storage type.).
3. Empty this storage type by an physical inventory difference posting with 562 (for this you have to assign this IM movement type to your PI settings first).
4. Switch the warehouse number to EWM.
5. Upload the stock in EWM WITH communicating to ERP.
This way it saves you the creation of a new storage location with all the other requirements (like creating material views, determination, etc).
As the postings upload in EWM creates material documents with movement type 561, you can also compare it to the 562 postings to see that the sum is 0.
All this (whatever you do, what Jonas proposed or what I proposed) means you do that BEFORE or DURING the switch to EWM. What you write in your question describes a scenario where you simply switched the warehouse number to EWM and uploaded the stock, but without clean up before. And then there is no standard way to clean up the warehouse in ERP. You can of course erase DB entries, but not what I would recommend (a consultant may see that differently). And it is definitely better to empty the warehouse. Otherwise users will still look into the old transaction and wonder what is there in bins...

And it is EWM. NOT eWM - Duh!
And if your question includes the word "transfer order" - do NOT tag the question with Extended Warehouse Management!

Hi Juergen,
Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated for your thoughts and explaining the steps. I will test it out and update here.
I have additional questions on the above explained process.
1. Are you suggesting to move all the stock from multiple storage type to a single storage type 998? Should this step to be performed before down loading the data or after downloading the data.
2. If the stocks are emptied using 562 before uploading the data in EWM, then how do we recover the data incase any issue in the upload process.
Thank you,
Venkat

Hi,
"1. Are you suggesting to move all the stock from multiple storage type to a single storage type 998? Should this step to be performed before down loading the data or after downloading the data."
This step should be performed AFTER downloading the data. Because otherwise of course you have no bin stock data, GR dates, etc. My list starts with (2) because there was another answer, which lists the possibility using another storage location, but that was deleted? And the step 1 is of course: download the data from ERP.
If there is a problem with the upload (after you have cleaned up), this is not a problem. Because you still have the file used for the upload, so you can cancel the upload and redo it in EWM.
