Hello gurus, I have been studying SAP APO and there's one thing that I want to understand. As far as I know, when transferring transaction data and master data from ECC to APO, we need to create and activate an integration model. Is there a reason for the use of integration model? I know that with integration model allows you to transfer a chunk of data at the same time, but other than that I don't see the importance of integration model.
Request clarification before answering.
Interesting question - what would you do to integrate all required and necesaary objects from your SAP ERP system(s) into APO ?
Setting up CIF between ERP and APO takes worst case a few minutes and I have a fully SAP supported integration layer in real-time, directly via qRFC and no worries about functionality monitoring etc. On top of this you can steer the interfacing, you can enhance it fairly easily by custom fields and it comes with a ready to use Comparison layer ERP/APO. If something doesn't work as expected - I can open a SAP call and Walldorf will help me to get it working.
The only case where CIF isn't necessary is if you use only APO-DP where you rather integrate via SAP BW some historical data from your central DWH and need some base characterictics for the CVC generation.

If any master data object in ECC is relevant to APO, then it need to be added to integration model.
