Unit of Measure in SAP EWM – Materials with ST instead of kg/g

Hello everyone,

In ERP, we have some materials maintained with the base unit of measure kg or g. These are also transferred to EWM in kg/g.
However, in EWM, we need to work with ST (pieces) instead, as we count the number of pieces rather than the weight. And its for the warehouse easier to count the materials in pieces rather than the weight.

Unfortunately, we cannot simply change the unit of measure in ERP to ST.

What are the best ways to handle this in EWM or ERP so that we can work with ST instead of kg/g in EWM?

Thank you for your help 🙂

Did you maintain Conversion between KG and EA ?-- Also what is your preferred UoM under the storage view of the EWM product master? You can update it using MM02 under WM Execution view.

The preferred alternative unit of measure is the unit in which you usually handle a product in the warehouse.

In ERP, we have materials where the base unit of measure is g (grams), but we have also defined an alternative unit of measure in ST (pieces) with the correct conversion (e.g., 1 g = 1 ST). In EWM, we would like to use ST as the preferred unit for picking, but currently, the system still suggests picking in g, which is not practical for our warehouse operations. The stock in the warehouse monitor is maintained for base unit in g, but we have the alternative unit in ST available. When I create the warehouse task it still prefers the gram-base unit and not ST as I entered it in the master data in EWM for the Warehouse Data..

Hi @memberju, could you show what customizing entry was missing? I'm having the same problem you had.

you have to enter it also in the product master data the preferred unit and then change your stock with /scwm/post to the right AME.

Thanks for the help, it worked here.

I just had to post goods receipt for a new stock, so it changed to the right AUoM (the suggestion to use /scwm/post also works).
Basically:

  • Define Unit of Measure Attributes -> mark AUOM as specific unit of measure
  • Define Item Types for Outbound Delivery Process -> set the flag to keep the AUoM from delivery of ERP
