We recencly noticed in the SOST transaction that no message were being sent. This was because the mail server had been disabled for message sending due a release update. After this was enabled, message sending worked. We are looking for an automatic way to receive a notification from the SOST if the sending fails. Does anyone know of a solution?

Dear peterrstoll,
normally, when emails were not be able to send to the receiver, the most often seen origins were:
1. The message passed SAP, but stucked between SAP and email exchange server or
2. The message has internal error within SAP and were not handovered to exchange server.
For the first one, you normally get standard email notification by your email provider / server. Here is the problem, that in SAP everything looks good and you are not independent from notifications.
For the second you can catch up the failed messages via table SOST by using a custom programm and send them by mail, excel whatever. Or better, you use SAP WF and catch up such message types with errors and put them into workflow task to track and solve them.
Hope this helps.
Best regards
Dennis
