Tracable packaging

Hello gurus,

I would like to set up various packaging materials for finished goods shipping. Our current process is using VL02N for packaging in the system where we pack the finished goods into packaging materials (PM) in HUs. Currently these PM are not monitored meaning we have to manually count our stocks.

What I would like to do:

• Create the materials in MM01 - what settings should I use?
• Use these materials in VL02N - when I issue the delivery the system should automatically decrease the stock of the PM
• Keep inventory of these materials in MD04
• For receipt I'd like to use MIGO and Receipt without delivery note

Important, that these PMs should not have value since these are returnable and in our or customers property.

You need to define your packaging material as managed in inventory. I imagine that you are using the material type VERP, if yes then you just need to create plant data storage view for it. You can then enter it in inventory using MIGO 501 for example. To decrease the inventory automatically during outbound process you need to generate delivery line for your packaging material in the OBD. Please note that there is a dedicated process for returnable packaging on which you can track who is the owner of the packaging material and if you send packaging material that you own to your customer to track the inventory at customer place.
