Storage type control for Bulk Storage in SAP EWM

Hi Experts,

I have activated Bulk Storage type in my Warehouse and chose to allow, to store Partial Quantities in Bulk bins .

As per SAP , I can only store one Partial HU in one Block , But I noticed that I am able to move multiple Partial HU in one bin.

With that Said, I am unclear with the purpose of below given piece of configuration.

Please share your expertise and guide me.

Hi,

I believe the place where this flag is set (under the setting for putaway strategies) is actually confusing, as the flag only controls partial quantities during picking, not during putaway.

That is as we assume that you always receive full pallets and put it away into this storage type, so it is not controlled what a full pallet is supposed to be in that moment. Only during picking the system checks how much a full pallet is supposed to be (via a pack spec, not sure if AUoM also works) and then reacts to that.

*** EDIT

OK, I had the chance to test this - and indeed, the system now really also controls this during putaway, not only during picking. I believe it was different, but I might be wrong there as well.

All the above is no official SAP statement.

Want to learn EWM?

Check for EWM courses: https://training.sap.com/trainingpath/Applications-Extended+Warehouse+Management-EWM+in+S4HANA

Get a SAP Learning Hub Subscription: https://training.sap.com/learninghub

And it is EWM. NOT eWM - Duh!

And if your question includes the word "transfer order" - do NOT tag the question with Extended Warehouse Management!

Hi Juergen,

I tried partial Putaway by removing this flag and system gave me error that I cannot move partials into the bulk bin.So I am sure that this configuration play some role in Putaway. But I am not certain, why its allowing me to move more than one partial in the bin.

Hi,

are you sure that you move something into this storage type, not out of it? And then probably this message is due to the fact that you have no packaging specification and the error comes because it can not determine what a full pallet is.

Otherwise I would have to double check, I have not tested something like a partial putaway in such a storage type for some time.

khusboo87 Please see my edit in my original answer. Indeed the system also check this during putaway, so you need a pack spec (or AUoM eventually, need to double check this).

Hi Juergen ,

I acknowledge your response. I will continue my analysis and will come back with more details on Partial Quantities flag. Clearly the information in Help is not correct and I really want to understand the limitation of the system .

Hi juergen.pitz ,

I did my analysis and looked into SAP code and couldn't find any piece where it would check the limit of allowed partials Per Row.

So , Shall I assume that we can move n(max HU) number of partials in bulk bin or There will be some notes from SAP to fix it?

Hi Juergen,

Yes, I am moving into it(Putaway) and I do have pack spec , So system is able to identify the full pallet. I am sure about that because when I remove the partial flag, I get the error that " NO Partial quantities can be stored in storage type:"

At this moment, I checked the underlying code and couldn't find any piece where it would restrict the number of allowed partials. So I look for a note to align the information with Actual behaviour of SAP.

Hey Khushbu,

did you find any solution to that?

"did you find any solution to that?"

Looking on this conversation again: the help text says that only one partial quantity is allowed. I am pretty sure that originally the intend was to only control this during picking, never during putaway.

"At this moment, I checked the underlying code and couldn't find any piece where it would restrict the number of allowed partials."

And I would think that there is never any restriction during putaway, but only for picking.

Hi Jurgen,

No I didn't find any solution, My goal was more to understand Bulk Picking for the system, but Partial flag doesnt work as it exaplain in the note.
