I haven't seen questions retailed to how TM is implemented in Retail industry. We have a scenario where a 3rd party order management and warehousing solutions are used. A store would place an order each week in the order management solution with about 10,000 lines on each order. There are about 80,000 SKUs overall and on each order there could be around 10,000 lines or more.
First of all this shipper uses ERP only for financial postings. Second, even if we did custom integration with their order management system to create OTRs in TM, I'm not sure if TM is equipped to handle so many lines. One idea we are exploring is the use of forwarding orders with products defined at a summarized level, i.e. 10,000 lines would be summarized as 100 lines for example. However if the lines summed up don't get shipped at the same time due to some last minute decision taken during loading then this will cause it's own problems. So we are looking for pointers on how to tailor TM for Retail, particularly for order management and requirement management. Any inputs are highly appreciated.
