SAP TM - Drop shipment and returns scenario for Transport process

We are doing greenfield SAP S/4HANA 2023implementation where Basic embedded TM is implemented.

For a normal Order to cash scenario SO- Delivery- FU-FO-FS flow is implemented.

The issue is coming with drop shipment scenario and returns.

In drop shipment business is saying they take care of transportation from vendor to customer. Since the flow does not contain any delivery, I am not able to activate creation of Freight unit from delivery. This is basic TM so creation of FU from sales order or Purchase order is not possible. How do I configure the scenario? Do I have to create dummy delivery type?

In return process business says they do the transportation from customer to warehouse but sometimes the customer does the transportation. If I activate the return delivery for FU creation, it will create FU in both cases. How do I distinguish or create a flow where customer does the transportation? Even If I leave the FU without creating FO in case of customer doing the transportation, How do I close the FU?

Hi @KB786 ,

I would suggest you to create FOs both the cases with different freight Order Types...Assume

1. FO with Transportation from Customer to WH

2. FO without Transportation...example like self Delivery/customer pick up only for documentation purpose ...Please explore on this

Benefit: you can track all returns with the above...

Hi Ahit . I tried using FO type 5000 for customer pick up . The issue is that it is not able to accept FU type 0001. This FU gets picked in FO type 1000-- with subcontracting but does not show up when I use Fo type 5000. This creates problem as there is no link to delivery, FU. I tried checking config but couldn't find the issue. Any leads where I should be looking into.

Hi @ KB786, Could you please provide screen shot how are creating FO. seems you are using standard default FO Types...

H Ajit, I am creating the flows in Sandbox. For FU I have copied standard 0001 to create 01FU. For FO I have copied 1000 for FO01. Now the flow between 01FU and FO01 is going fine and I have been able to do an end to end process in SAP TM S4 HANA. Now I have created type 5000 FO separately. I am trying to add this 01FU in this FO and it is not happening. Sorry tried to add screenshot but it is not working.

Hi @KB786- "I am trying to add this 01FU in this FO" -> Is this Customer Return FU ? At least copy and paste error so someone can help you.

There is no error as such, it is just that the FU is not getting added to the Freight order customer pick up.

Hi KB786 - Perhaps Allowed Item types missing... PRoduct missing...your case might be stanard 4000
