SAP Scale Integration

Dear experts,

the current situation is as follows: a pallet is received in the warehouse tagged with a barcode that contains the type of material that is on the pallet and its weight. After having completed a production order, that pallet is often not completely consumed. I want the scale reading the barcode of that pallet, weigh it and transmit the new information to SAP.

I want SAP to update the inventory level of that specific pallet by associating the newly registered weight to that kind of pallet.

I have 3 questions regarding the integration of pallet scales to SAP.

1. Is SAP able to filter the information transmitted by the scale (the new weight and the information on the original barcode), and thus keeping the type of material and simply overwriting the new weight?

2. Is the standard SAP ECC able to fulfil these requirements? Should SAP ECC be extended with the WM module?

3. If SAP ECC cannot fulfil my requirements, am I obliged to adopt SAP EWM?

Hello euzxx

Looks like you're asking the same question again: Pallet scales integration Review my response there.

Actually to you meet your requirements you'll need two integrations:

  1. with a scale and
  2. with a bar code scanner

Answering your questions:

Ad 1. The scenario you need is implementable in SAP ERP, however it requires some development to integrate both scale and bar code scanner. I'm pretty sure there is no standard integration scenario that would update the inventory of a pallet in a way you need.

Ad 2. ECC doesn't have to enhanced with WM to implement your scenario. If you are using WM already to managed pallets, the integration scenario will have to be hooked up to WM too.

Ad 3. The answer here is the same as in the above point. You don't need to have EWM, but if you already have, the integration scenario will have to talk to EWM too.
