SAP PPDS Installation (SCM Optimizer)

Hello,

We are implementing PPDS in our S4Hana 2020 testing system environment.

I've lookup everywhere for the answer but still haven't found one. We've realized that we need to install Livecache and integrate the CIF. But we are not sure about SCM Optimizer.

Would anyone tell me is it necessary to install SCM Optimizer to use this function?

And what are the functionality of SCM Optimizer if its necessary ?

Hi Yano,

Your question is too vague. For the question is it necessary to install optimizer ? If you read the SAP relevant documents it says it's optional. Based on your question I understand you are in S/4HANA 2020 version (hope it's correct). I also understand you are talking about the SCM Optimizer (PP Solver). This new optimizer provides a time bucket based planning approach, which the previous versions of S/4HANA didn't provide. It helps consider constraints such as production capacity, Lead times, Material flow, maximum delays allowed and provides a constrained solution. It's a planning engine which takes constraints into account and provides a solution. It all depends on your business process, and the functional consultants have to evaluate and recommend.

I hope this answers your question. Please note from 2020 version, there are two optimizers, a) PPDS Optimizer (Which is a DS optimizer for scheduling) b)SCM or PP optimizer (time bucket based planning optimizer). Accordingly please install, based on your requirements.

Yes you are correct, we are using S4Hana 2020 now. We did not install livecache yet, so we are going to install the plug-in of it once we decided to activate the PPDS function.

As far as my understanding from your reply, there are 2 optimizers in pp/ds. (at first i thought theres only one optimizer which is SCM Optimizer which is optional)

Is the PPDS Optimizer comes along with the normal activation (means we dont have to do any other extra installation like SCM Optimizer)

Can you provide me the guide book from the help portal for SCM Optimizer in PPDS context? Because i would like to know the functionality in PPDS.
