SAP IBP Excel Add-in 64 bit issues

Hello everyone,

My name is Dion and I work for an enterprise as an IT Systems Analyst. I have a user that uses SAP IBP excel add-in 64 bit and she experiences Excel crashing, Excel freezing, her laptop freezing and in some cases random shutdowns. My team and I have tried the following to improve performance.

- Teaching user how to open excel in it's own instance/session
- Adjusting virtual memory to set aside memory space for applications
- Disabling and uninstalling unused add-ins to improve performance
- Running SFC /Scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Upgrading user to 64 bit office
- Reinstalling Office 64 bit and SAP IBP 64 bit
- Upgrading user's laptop to a developer laptop model with 32GB of physical memory
- Changing settings in excel to dumb cache files every 5 days to eliminate the possibility of corrupt files.
- Rebuilding her user profile
- Reimaging her developer laptop.

No change. User still experiences the problems above. It may help to know that she works SAP IBP excel add-in to the bone. She claims that she never had issues on her old Dell Laptop with 16GB physical memory. Other users in our enterprise use SAP IBP too but don't run into these issues. We have many IT Service teams in our enterprise and our SAP IBP rep believes it's user error.

I don't know how I can help her at this point, so I reaching out to this community for any leads and answers. Any suggestions or advise is welcome.

Hi Dion,

Here are a few things I would do to troubleshoot this further -

• Contact SAP Support - OSS incident on this issue.
• Upgrade IBP Excel Add-in to newer release if it not upgraded in recent past.
• Clear the browser cache(Microsoft Edge) once a week or as frequently as possible.
• System Monitoring App in IBP- Check CPU and memory usage when issue occurs to find out if anything alarming with it.
• Refer this SAP note (KBA) : 2686746 - SAP IBP, Add-In for Microsoft Excel Best Practices and Performance Considerations

Please try to reduce the data you’re trying to pull from IBP and close all other applications which are not being used. Below are some of the options you’ve with it: Excel-Template related to suggestions -

• use the attribute based filter / selection condition
• use value based filter on the keyfigure if possible
• limit the number of keyfigures,
• reduce the time horizon
• view the data at aggregate level of time (example moths vs weeks).
• view the data at aggregate level by attribute (example Customer Vs. Customer Group, Product-location Vs. Product level only Vs. Location level only Vs. Product Group level etc.)
• remove or reduce formula / calculations /formatting used in the Excel workbook.
• Refer SAP Note (KBA) : 2153455 - SAP IBP, Add-In for Microsoft Excel: Planning View Performance Recommendations

Hopefully this will help reduce at least how often user experience this issue if not complete resolve it.
