If we were to directly compare SAP CAR Replenishment planning & SAP MRP Run,
How could we state it? Also, what kind of business scenario would be ideal for one of the two?
Request clarification before answering.
I cannot answer in much detail about MPR, but in essence it is a well established and proven LOB solution from SAP that can be used for many use cases. In particular it has a production notion - this is its origin. It can deal with Bill of materials and helps production and procurement planners create plans so they can initiate the procurement or production processes.
It can also be used by retailers for their replenishment processes, typically it is rather used for distribution center planning and not so often for store replenishment. It is embedded in ECC and S/4 and caters for 'simpler' retail replenishment requirements. Please note that part of SAP's Retail ERP solutions there is also Rapid Replenishment which is suited for simple store replenishment processes (see also SAP Note 2051280 - Rapid replenishment planning)
SAP Replenishment Planning is an add-on to the SAP Customer Activity Repository (CAR), It is part of the SAP Customer Activity Repository 5.0 application bundle. This is a retail specific platform that collects many customer related data such as POS sales but offers in addition planning features via separate applications. SAP Replenishment Planning is one of them, the newest. In addition there are also SAP Merchandise Planning, SAP Assortment Management, SAP Promotion Management and SAP Allocation Management. From a forecasting perspective SAP CAR offers the Unified Demand Forecast (UDF) as a common platform component. UDF is a sophisticated ML based retail specific forecast that includes out of the box most retail sales influences.
SAP Replenishment Planning is a dedicated retail store replenishment solution and has many advanced features It addresses automated retail store replenishment scenarios with a new approach, the so-called cost-optimized ordering and simulation. It has a special focus on fresh products (products with a short shelf life) by considering spoilage and intraday planning but can also be used to plan other reorderable products.
The solution offers the following main features:
SAP Replenishment Planning uses SAP Fiori technology to deliver modern and intuitive user interfaces. There are apps available for review of order plan items, replenishment simulation, managing alerts and for configuration. Analytical content is provided by monitoring relevant KPI’s using SAP Analytics Cloud stories.
The solution provides integration to SAP Merchandising for Retail, SAP Fashion Management, S/4HANA Retail for merchandise management and SAP S/4HANA for fashion and vertical business as well as to SAP Order and Delivery Scheduling (FPS04), a new cloud based solution for scheduling data.
More information can be found at the help portal and in addition on this Wiki Page - including information about other retail specific replenishment solutions such the new Industry Cloud solution SAP Predictive Replenishment as well as the well-known SAP Forecasting and Replenishment
There are also trainings available!
Hope this helps!
