SAP APO PP/DS Optimizer does not optimize orders within campaigns

Hi,

I am working on a solution to optimize production schedule based on characteristics and grouping certain product characteristics to run together for the same sales order in a MAKE-TO-ORDER PP/DS scenario.

All the master data has been setup appropriately, PDS, setup matrix based on characteristics, PP/DS Planned Orders picking up the right Setup Group etc.

For the purpose of testing, Production Campaigns were created manually and orders have been assigned to these campaigns via the campaign transaction.

When the PP/DS Optimizer is executed with bottleneck optimization with campaign and "Retain" existing campaigns, it is not able to move the orders inside the campaign to achieve least costs.

In the example above, the ideal solution would have been rows 1,2,4,3 or rows 2,1,3,4 but the optimizer only moves around the campaigns.

Does Campaign planning require Only orders of same setup group in a campaign? Can it move orders inside a campaign in the "Retain" mode.

Did anyone ever face a situation to optimize based on grouping based on a combination of Pegged Sales Order# and material characteristics?

Appreciate any ideas and suggestions.

Regards

AK

Hello Ak,

With the retain campaign it will not alter the Campaign already created. It will just shift the existing campaigns to optimize further.

the standard flow of running a production campaign is

1. SNP--> PPDS order

2. delete or dissolve existing campaigns

3. run PPDS optimizer it creates an order sequence with optimized setup times at the selected resources. Storage costs cannot be taken into account.

4. then create the campaigns with this output...using heuristic

start with step 2 when planning situation changes.

OR you can use campaign optimization to create them.

Hello Abhishek Rai,

Thank you for confirming. I was afraid orders within a Campaign could not be moved since the basic assumption for a campaign is that they all have the same setup groups.

My campaigns are order based, they can contain planned orders for products with different setup groups. For example, I have multiple sales orders for the same SKU, but i want to run them in groups of similar products under the same sales order - a campaign with different setup groups.

I guess i need to look at enhancements.
