Sales Order Scheduling in embedded TM in S/4 HANA 1909?

Hello Experts,

i am wondering how sales order scheduling might work (or not work) in embedded TM in S/4HANA 1909. The information i find is quite confusing. I hope somebody can help me out.

  • In SAP Help for (external) TM 9.6 I can read about sales order scheduling as a part of the "logistics integration"

https://help.sap.com/viewer/54cf405c9d9e4c96bf091967ea29d6a7/9.6.2/en-US/4ce1975eb0054bcbb1aa04e181b...

  • I also also see nice figures in TM110 Course:

  • I learned also that the external TM 9.6 is on its end of its lifecyvle and that the strategic future lies in the embedded version inside s/4 hana.

But when i look inside the help of the embedded TM functionality which i can find here:

https://help.sap.com/viewer/e3dc5400c1cc41d1bc0ae0e7fd9aa5a2/1909.002/en-US/e50d1242ac58452cbfb50f3f...

I can't find anything about any scheduling functionality towards sales orders at all or am I wrong?

  • When i look inside the Customizing with SPRO inside S/4HANA 1909 i can only see setting relevant for sales order scheduling inside the integration of external TM. Does that mean that there are setting needed for an external one which is not needed and working out of the box for the internal version (which would be also logical?)

  • In the corresponiding cutomizing of the cotrol key i can see more or less clear signs that this functionality is only possible with an external TM?

  • I also tend to listen to the Roadmap webinars and i can find slides like this, where the sales order scheduling is part of the "Product Vision" for 2022.

To make a long story short:

What functionlaity is there for sales order scheduling / integration (wich also then influences production planning etc.) inside the current Version of SAP Transportation management embedded in S/4HANA 1909?

Many thanks in advance!
Patrick

Hello patrick.d

Currently sales order scheduling in TM function is restricted to external TM system scenario, i.e. it's not available in embedded TM.

SAP TM Roadmap features an innovation Enable sales order scheduling planned for 2022, however it's classified as a "product vision" and visions do change.

So for now in embedded TM we are stuck with standard route based sales order scheduling. It's sucks as basically the same information needs to be maintained twice:

  1. As routes and shipping point data - to schedule sales orders
  2. As logistics network - to schedule TM objects.

That data needs to be consistent so TM scheduling is in sync with SD scheduling. Looks like SAP realized that hence the product vision.

Thanks 3a9e4ce873a94034b33dc62b0ce600ee for this quick reply. I was afraif´d of these very bad news. In the end to summarize:

- double work despite the term "embedded"

- external tm also bad solution bc of the end of its lifecycle

- the need of le-tra customizing (possible until 2025)

- no backwards influence from the outobound transportation side in a short term high speed business (bakery) at all towards sales order scheduling and production planning

correct me if i am wrong. Any reports/help to keep le-tra and tm customizing aligned?

thanks

Patrick

Hello patrick.d

To my knowledge standard sales order scheduling i.e. routes and shipping point settings and TM scheduling are not integrated. They are driven by two set of data, independent data. I'm not aware of any report that would cross check these settings. I think it'd quite difficult to implement such a report due to completely different data structures and logic.

Notice that the old LE-TRA module reused the same functions as sales order scheduling. Actually routes are maintained from LE-TRA configuration. That integration is lost in TM. Therefore an option to schedule sales orders with TM functions. Unfortunately it's not available in embedded TM. I know it's strange that side-care TM scenario provide more integration than embedded one. It's more "embedded" than "integrated".

SAP sees that embedded TM lacks functionality as compared to side-care TM e.g. they have recently provided subsequent freight unit creation which up to now was automatic only that prevented FU consolidation across TRQs.

I guess we need to wait till TM is really integrated in S/4HANA and not only "embedded" or "squeezed in".

Cheers
