Hi all,
I have recently become an active member on this community forum as I am exploring more about the New S/4HANA Product Compliance solution's capability and assess its suitability for my customer. As part of the overall project, we will be implementing S/4HANA 2023 - this is non-negotiable.
I am seeking advice in terms of the Dangerous Goods Management solution and its support for Class 7. I have (very recently) managed to set up the solution on our demo system and have a very good idea of how this process works on a generic level. Steps I performed as follows:
- (pre requisite) - activate relevant dangerous goods compliance requirements, e.g. IATA, IMDG, ADR, and assign to a compliance purpose
- material master records (that represent the unpackaged and packaged product) set to compliance relevant. These are called product master in S/4HANA Fiori
- create product compliance view for unpackaged product - assign the material master records to the view. Maintain relevant compliance data in the view
- assign compliance purposes from step 0 to the compliance view
- classify unpackaged product - assign relevant UN number per regulation. This determines the relevant descriptions
- classify packaged product - assign relevant UN number per regulation, Determine enclosure variants and packaging. assess transport permissibility
I now have some questions 🙂
As mentioned before, we are specifically interested in classifying products under Class 7 regulations (such as UN 2977 and UN 2978).
- The customer completes their classification of items on a batch-by-batch basis e.g. at delivery rather than at master data level. If that "packaged product" contains less quantity of the unpackaged material, then it may be classified under a different number. Further, it may have different enclosures depending on what unpackaged material is inside the packaged product. Finally, the dangerous goods note will have to have varied data on it depending on the material and qty in the packaged product. What would be the correct way of managing this?
- Following from point 1, the quantity of unpackaged material and the weight of the overall packaged product must be declared, which would only be made available at transactions such as delivery (e.g. handling unit). Further, other class 7 relevant information such as the transport index, activity and critical safety index is not available in the dangerous goods classification app, and logically can only be entered at point of delivery anyway. Entering these details would then determine further labelling such as Radioactive Category I, Category II White/Yellow etc. which can’t really be determined at the master data level, such as the product compliance view. I have noticed the transport index (T.I.), packaging instruction, critical safety index (C.S.I), and radioactive category I/II/III labels calculated from the T.I. are available in the Handling Unit screen in the VL03N transaction. Can these be incorporated in the standard solution, and if so, how?
- It is unclear to me if this solution in S/4HANA 2023 actually generates a dangerous goods note as standard or not. The roadmap I reviewed suggests to me that the generation of dangerous goods notes is unavailable. Please confirm if my assumption is correct. If so, this would mean that we will require an enhancement to print a customised form.
- Can the same material representing a packaged product be assigned to multiple different materials representing unpackaged products? We have a scenario where a parent material representing a container will have different child materials that represent different compositions and concentrations.
Any information with support for Class 7 and ability to classify at batch/serialised level will be fantastic.
Thanks
