Response and Supply in SAPIBP1

Hi Experts

I am currently looking at creating a system which includes both time series and order based planning functionality, this includes S&OP, Inventory and response supply. From research and SAP documentation I have seen that response and supply had to be created within a separate planning area but as of 1802, once can now utilize supply and response within the SAPIBP1 planning area to leverage both time series and order based planning within one planning area. However I am a bit confused, Would one need to configure the SAP74 planning area and then merge with the SAPIBP1 planning area or if the all the relevant data is set up within SAPIBP1 to supports the running of the supply optimizer, one can use the time series data to run response and supply. When looking at the SAP7 specific master data there seems to be many overlaps with regards to what is already set up in SAPIBP1. Is there any documentation that can guide me with regards to the steps required to set up response and supply within the SAPIBP1 planning area.

Regards

Ebrahim

Dear Ebrahim

As of today, I would not recommend to configure a planning area that has both SAPIBP1 and SAP7 Features in one. The reason is that today you have not the flexibility you need for the timeseries based (TS) planning such as Demand or Inventory etc and using external master data at the same time.

But this will change in time as it is on the longterm roadmap to have a so-called configurable data model that will allow you to properly merge all the functionalities from TS and OBP planning

SAP74 planning area was intended to at least merge TS and OBP for Supply planning, but it is not developed any further since quite a while, as many of the strengths functionalities of TS Supply were not supported. You may add further planning levels to make use of statistical forecasting for example, but you will fail using Demand Sensing or Inventory in the same planning area

Besides, I am not aware how you could merge two template planning areas, except by copying one ti your customized and manually configure the other ones features manually into it. If anyone found a way, I would be happy to learn.

So therefore until the configurable data model will be available (don't ask me when but check the roadmap instead please), I personally would work with separate planning areas, using the advanced copy operator to exchange kf values

Hi,

The unified planning area is a comprehensive sample planning area that supports an integrated planning process covering all of the following:

  1. Demand planning
  2. Demand sensing
  3. Inventory optimization
  4. Supply planning (time-series-based supply planning algorithms)
  5. Sales and operations planning
  6. SAP Supply Chain Control Tower

You can use the unified planning area SAPIBP1 to jump-start the implementation in case your business process requires integration across different IBP applications.

If you need a planning area for order-based planning and time-series-based supply planning, we recommend that you use a combination of the SAP7 and SAP4 sample planning areas, or SAPIBP1 as described in SAP Best Practices for SAP Integrated Business Planning. For more information.

Hi Ebrahim,

As of IBP 2005 the standard SAPIBP1 planning area as a standard is delivered with the following applications

- IBP for S&OP

- IBP for Supply (w/o Response)

- IBP for Inventory

- IBP for Demand

- Supply chain control tower

Please check the latest help document in the whats new section for more information.

This topic is a road map item.
