Rank Value in Storage Bin Sorting

Hi,

What is purpose of give a rank in storage bin sorting. Is always typing "1" a correct solution?

Hi,

the ranking is important if you have more than one storage type assigned to the same activity area. In this case with the rank you control in which sequence the different storage types are processed (at least this is what I always expect from this).

And then of course you can not always use 1, as it is a key field.

Sure in Customizing it cannot be same inside of one area, and moreover it should be same between "Assign Storage Bins to Activity Areas " and "Define Sort Sequence for Activity Area " for same storage type in activity area. Otherwise system wont be able to sort automatically. In case of sorting generation (/SCWM/SBST) it be sorted with this rank field first, as Juergen said.

For upload one can set any value for the rank field, there are no check against customizing

but why would you ever upload this sorting? The only time I show that is when showing the migration tools and otherwise the only use of that I can imagine is when you want to have some random sequence you garble up in a spreadsheet.

Hi Juergen, requirement sometimes coming from the client (we want to have it this way), last case was just a complex structure at the Mezzanine storage, for picking sequence Client would like to have own storage bins sorting. As well if storage already labeled and it structure is kind of fixed and it is not possible (unwanted) to redesign with new aisles for example. And the client had already all sequences in the excel.

Second case was kind of "preferable bin". Client does not want to use storage sections, but they want to have always (or almost always) same bin for putaway in some cases (e.g. buffer bins, work center), for sure one can achieve this with sorting customizing, but it is more effort to do complex customizing using rank, and if this requirement arise before go-live I'd prefer to do it with sections or AA customizing, after go-live with budget limits, "Do not touch running system" rule, uploading of the sorting for several bins is easier or at least it is a faster way to make warehouse work little bit better.

Sure customizing is better way, and usually it is only automatic sorting, but sometimes (at some projects) 1-2% are done with manual upload. This is similar as storage bins structure, this Mezzanine had 49 records, and other storage type 91, in such cases I would as well prefer manual upload.

Hi Melih, Yes, you can use 1 for this value. System sorts in several places by rank with higher prio as sorting number. So in case when you have different Ranks, you would get sorting by sorting number inside of each rank.

I used it only in customer development. If you do sorting for cross-line Putaway it be taken from sorting number (and several other values), but in general it is sorting number. Usually I set it it to 1, standard takes it from AA customizing
