Putawayrule "Addition to Stock" within Storage Type Groups

Hi guys,

maybe you can help me with a problem.

I've got a product, that will be stored in two different storage types (LGR1 & LGR2). Therefor I maintained a storage type group with the putaway rule "Addition to stock/empty bin".

I assingned the storagetyps to this group, defined a storagetyp search sequence and the PACI for this group.

To test this settings, I deactivated the storage section search and there are no storage bin types defined.

For the first putway of my product I changed the destination bin, so the product got stored in storage type LGR2.

Now I want to perform another putaway for the same product, but the system finds an empty bin in storage type LGR1.

I was expecting, that the system is searching for existing stock in the whole storage type group.

Did I miss any settings for this or am I understanding the meaning of storage type gorup wrong. We use it for strict fifo and that works fine. But for the putaway its not.

Do you have any ideas?

Thanks for your help

Jens

Hi Jens,

in my opinion storage groups have more sens for removal strategy, where you want to define a group of storage types, in which the system should search for FIFO quant for example (as you do it anyway). In putaway, system assebles a "priority table", consisting of all possible combinations of LGTYP, LGBER, LPTYP and sorts it. With this sequence it starts to search for target bins. You may influence the final sorting by a Badi.

What concerns the desired "addition to stock" behaviour:

If your target storage type is a fixed-bin-type (/SCWM/V_T3010-FIXBIN = X), you have to set /SCWM/V_T3010-ADD_LEVEL = H.

See /SCWM/LPUT_BIN_DETF17 form BIN_DETERMINATION_1, row 136 and on.

Hi,

"Therefor I maintained a storage type group with the putaway rule "Addition to stock/empty bin"."

WHO would ever do that...? 🙂 The concept for storage type groups for putaway is something very strange, I never figured out why I should do that.

Maybe you should have tried first this scenario without some manual putaway. Which storage type the system would have used? The first one which is assigned to the storage type group. Now if you look into this assignment, you will see that there is no sorting in there. So how would you control in which storage type you want to putaway FIRST? That you have to maintain in the warehouse product, in the tab Storage Type. Somewhere is a sequence in putaway field.

Now I suppose you did not maintain this. And then you manually put material into storage type 2. So now you let the system try to find a bin. Where will it check? As you have not assigned a sequence in the product, it of course checks in storage type 1. And if you would have assigned a sequence with storage type 2 first - it would never make add to stock if there is anything in storage type 1 (as long as there is any bin it can find in storage type 2).

Ghe system never checks cross storage types for a bin for addition to stock. The entry of the strategy (no matter for a group or in the determination of the storage type search sequence) is anyway something... which does not work (not to my knowledge, at least).

Storage type groups during picking is something completely else then during putaway.

screenshot-2022-09-24-164554.jpgI can see from help in storage type groups, it can define putaway rule by "Addition to existing stock only" however in current version, there is no such a choice any more. I assume storage type groups for putaway was original designed to allow to search only existing stocks bins. If there is nothing found, we can use standard storage type putaway rule to determine e.g. Empty Bin only or Addition / Empty bin.

I will raise to SAP to see what they say about the missing entry in the storage type groups putaway rule.
