Process trigger Program Slowness

Hi Experts,

We are in SAP TM 9.3 and too many triggers are locked in /SCMTMS/D_TRIGHD table and causing serious performance issues with locked documents. To unlock the locks running the program -SCMTMS/PROCESS_TRIGGER_BGD to process triggers in the background every 3 minutes. But this jobs take long time/slow to get finish. Is there any way or possibility to improve the performance of this job and how to avoid locking entries from the table. Let me know if you need additional info on this.
