Hello EWM Experts,

We are doing SAP S/4 HANA 1909 (FPS01) implementation with embedded EWM solution for IS-Oil Client. In the current scenario, client is not using warehouse functionality in existing ERP and warehouse is under commissioning phase. Business suggested to first will do all business transaction for IM managed storage location (MM) then will transfer the all storage location to as EWM-managed to use with complete warehouse functionality in the system (once warehouse ready).

I have done the Basic configuration for EWM with respect to finalized KDS and tested the basic scenario like Inbound, Outbound and Internal movement but need your valuable suggestions (prerequisites and challenges) if transfer the IM managed storage location Inventory to EWM managed storage location Inventory with complete functionality.

I would appreciate if you could let me know your valuable guidence.

With Kind Regards,

Akhilesh Singh

Hi Akhilesh,

I can think of two solutions here:

Option1:

If you have already setup the configuration for EWM and now you would like to use only IM locations, the simple solution is to remove the plant/storage location assignment with warehouse number(Ideally you need to execute all possible test cases).

Once warehouse is ready, then you can activate the assignment again and load stock only in EWM. There is a check available in stock upload transaction in EWM which will provide option to post stock only in EWM but not in ERP.

But before you activate EWM setup, you need to ensure there are no open Inbound and outbound deliveries. If open documents are there, then you need to open all documents, remove the storage location & save and once again open the delivery and input storage location which will determine the intermediate warehouse & distribution relevancy.

Option2:

You can go live with alternate IM storage location (if there are no storage location specific validations) & once the warehouse is ready, transfer the stock from IM location to EWM location. But this will create inbound deliveries for which we need to perform receiving in EWM.

Thanks Narsimha for valuable guidance but as per my discussion with Business are agree to Option2 approach way forward.

Process to Transfer IM Managed Inventory to EWM Managed

•Same Storage Location will be configured as an EWM Managed Storage Location.

•Relevant Materials will be extended to Product master to be created.

•Physical Inventory will take place to check Actual vs system quantity.

•Transfer Stock from IM Managed Storage Location to EWM Managed Storage Location.

•Confirmation control will be mandatory for material PO and Inbound delivery needs to be added in Procurement scenario.

•Inventory will appear in IM based reports till No EWM is activated and once EWM is activated, inventory will start appearing in both IM as well as EWM reports.

Hi Narsimha,

Agree from your suggestion, only I'm thinking. Will use same storage location for ERP and EWM(Going forward), once the EWM functionality activated (warehouse commissioned) then will transfer the stock at storage Bin level i.e. using same storage location level.

Hi Akhilesh,

Check my queries and think about solution

  • Inventory Transfer will happen from IM storage location to EWM managed storage location at respective storage Bin--- How will you move the stock from IM to EWM if you are using same storage location? (Instead just load the stock in EWM without posting in ERP)
  • No impact on current Purchase Orders and Goods receipt.--- If goods receipt already completed, stock should be updated in EWM, check this
