Hi Experts,
I’m working with SAP Public Cloud WM and I’d like to clarify how packaging specifications are determined when creating a pick-HU for an outbound delivery.
From what I’ve found in the documentation:
Packaging spec profiles like PB_EWM_GRP, PB_EWM_GRV, SPB_EWM_DEC, SPB_EWM_INB, and SPB_EWM_OUT exist but can’t be created or extended.
Packing with packaging specs seems possible in an outbound delivery using the “Pack Handling Unit – Advanced” app.
However, during RF picking, the system requires a manual entry of a packaging material to create a pick-HU (ad-hoc).
So my understanding is:
👉 It’s not possible to determine packaging specifications for pick-HUs created during picking.
Is that correct? Has anyone managed to determine pick-HUs automatically based on packaging specs in SAP Public Cloud WM?
Request clarification before answering.
Good day @vicentejarque
Thank you for your question.
Have a look at these references, they provide more detailed guidance:
Packaging Specification, Pack Handling Units - Advanced
To summarise, when you use the “Pack Handling Unit – Advanced” option, be aware that the system can only automatically determine packaging specification if conditions like, existence of a packaging specification for the designated material, the relevant profile is active, and the process is triggered from the delivery or warehouse task creation. In this case, the packaging material is proposed from the packaging specification defined through the delivered master data setup.
Your understanding is correct in regard to RF picking. In public cloud, it is currently not possible to determine packaging specifications automatically for Pick-Hus created during RF picking.
I recommend adhering to a clean-core (best practice) approach if you want consistend packaging behaviour for picking and staging, which requires you to use the Handling Unit – Advanced app to pre-pack or predefine HUs at the delivery stage, then RF picking will consume them automatically.
Let me know if you have further questions.
Best regards
Chris
