Packaging items from a production order without packing instructions

Hello SAP Community,

We would like to use the transaction COP2 to create Handling Units for the products of a production order. We plan to post the goods receipt from production using the transaction COWBHUWE. When using COP2, it appears that a packing instruction must always be found or specified. Is the use of a packing instruction mandatory in COP2? If so, could a dummy packing instruction be created that allows for the selection and packaging of individual packing materials for each material? Is there perhaps another way to handle packaging items from a production order without packing instructions? (This is without EWM)

Thank you for your insights!

Hi there,

it is possible to manually pack in COP2 as well, but it is a bit different than the way you would pack for delivery or free handling unit.

As a first step you can add the load carrier and enter how many pieces of it you need. Example below 4 Pallets.

Notice that the gray line shows the open (still not packed amount of material).

After that in the line below it you can add the material and enter how many pieces should be packed on each pallet. So if you enter 4 like below

and press enter you will see that 16 pieces are packed and 4 pieces will still be open.

So you can either add one more pallet or you can use another packing material where you pack these and so on. Remember that you need to add the packed material in the line below the load carrier.

If you want to do a muli-level packing (Pallet with 4 boxes each containing 5 pieces of material) you have to add the next packing material below the load carrier and after pressing enter you can see that the level column is added and you can enter the amount of the next packing material. After that you add your material and you get the right proposal.

Whenever you are not happy with the result you can use the buttons on the left side to delete the lines and start over.

After you press save you can see the resulting Handling Units with their IDs:

Cheers and happy packing,

Hi,

yes, it is also possible to pack maually in transaction COP2 as described in the official documentation. https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_S4HANA_CLOUD/32da8359c8ee4e8b8e8c5e15cacba5aa/2c2fa7ea82c54f0f9795cfc8...

You can delete the packing proposal and pack manually (enter any proper packaging material, etc. ).

Best regards,

Hi @baris_yalcin,

thanks for your reply. So far I haven't been able to pack manually. I can enter a proper packaging material, but I can't connect (pack) the main material with the packaging material.

It could work with packaging instructions, but that wouldn't meet the requirement.
