Hello all,
Need guidance on the transport strategy for planning areas. In a project, where there are multiple roll outs
1. Should we have one single Production Area rather than multiple region wise?
2. While doing the transports, is it ok to have Dev, Testing and Production instances alone OR should we have a Configuration OR Dedicated Business testing planning area?
Thanks,
Request clarification before answering.
Hi,
1. Should we have one single Production Area rather than multiple region wise?
It depend on project implementation and volume of data and other dependencies, there are two options.
1. Create different planning area for each region to support the supply chain planning.
2. Create single planning area to support the global supply chain planning.
2. While doing the transports, is it ok to have Dev, Testing and Production instances alone OR should we have a Configuration OR Dedicated Business testing planning area?
SAP standard approach to have two systems,
1. Dev/Test - Perform development and test all business process scenarios.
2. Production - Transport planning areas to production and run real business transactions.

Thanks Lingaiah for the update.
The only downside I see for separate Planning areas region wise is the high cost of maintenance.
The reason for my second question was how do we manage the changes?
We have the standard approach you mentioned about two systems 1.Dev/Test and 2. Production. What is the preferred way to manage changes? Say for a change, BAT is in progress. However another critical request comes in which needs to be moved immediately to Production. What is the preferred approach?
Thanks
