One EWM system connected to multiple ECC systems

Hello Gurus,

My client has two ECC systems and they are implementing EWM, is it possible to connect two ECC systems to one EWM system?

I think the question is two fold:

1. Is it technically possible?

2. Are there any limitations or operational challenges with this approach? Are all EWM features available in this case? (I know that CRM when connected to multiple ECC systems loses some of the features so I was wondering if this is case for EWM too)

Thanks in advance for your insight

Hi,

technically it is possible.

Operationally it might be a challenge. For example you have to see when you CIF materials / customers / vendors what it means if the names are the same / different in the systems. Is material A in System 1 the same as in System 2? Or is it two materials? Several things can be controlled depending on the source system; others can't, so you have to harmonize things eventually.

From operational features, I do not know of any limitation.

Thanks Juergen for quick response.

If we make sure that we harmonize the master data in two systems to make sure that there are no overlaps, then is it safe to assume that this integration can work?

Also, do we have to harmonize the ECC systems to make sure that they can work with one EWM system?

Hi,

the integration works, definitely it is possible to connect more then one ERP system to one EWM system. You just need to be aware that you need to figure out your potential master data issues. With "harmonize" I meant some special entries and settings which are available, which have a table in EPR as well as in EWM. You have to maintain them the same in both systems - but also the same in both ERP system. But these are tables you might not even use.

"Also, do we have to harmonize the ECC systems to make sure that they can work with one EWM system?"

Not sure what you mean with that.

Hi,

Yes, this is possible.here RFC destinations are different to distribute the deliveries.Even though in CIF also we can maintain the separate target systems ( logical systems ) to transfer the master data like  material, vendor & customers.

Thx CK for quick reply.

So we connect 1ECC business system to 2 EWM systems? Whats exact config impact here?

Hi,

Here we have two concepts 1. logical system 2. business system

Logical systems use to connect the RFC destinations for delivery processing through distribution channel.

one ECC logical system connect to multiple systems.

Ex : from ECC , one side we can connect to CRM & other side we connect to EWM also.

Business system  can present in EWM only and it can be used to process the deliveries in EWM once after distributed as per the RFC destinations.
