MRP Transfer Requirement Not Defaulting Source Storage Location

Description:

We are trying to enable automatic stock transfers between two storage locations within the same plant via MRP in SAP ECC.

  • Scenario:
We have two storage locations: Sloc A (source) and Sloc B (destination) within the same plant.
Sloc B is maintained in the material master (MRP 4 view) with the "Storage Location MRP Indicator = 2 (Plan separately)".

  • Issue:
When there is demand in Sloc B, MRP correctly generates a transfer requirement with movement type 311. However, the source storage location (Sloc A) is not populated in the transfer requirement. This requires manual intervention, which we want to avoid.

  • Expected Behaviour:
We expect MRP to automatically populate Sloc A as the source storage location in the transfer requirement whenever there is demand in Sloc B.

  • Request:
Please advise on the configuration or master data setup required to ensure that the source storage location (Sloc A) is automatically filled in the transfer requirement created by MRP.

Hi Mahendra,
Please find below the solution. Maintain Source Storage Location in MRP Area Configuration
SAP ECC uses MRP Areas when you plan storage locations separately (Storage Location MRP Indicator = 2). In this case, you must explicitly define the source storage location for the MRP Area.

Please find Step-by-Step Configuration as mentioned below.

1. Create or Maintain MRP Area for Sloc B

  • Transaction: OMIZ or SPRO → Production → MRP → Planning → Define MRP Areas
  • Ensure that an MRP Area exists for Sloc B (destination).
  • If not, create one and assign it to the plant and Sloc B.

2. Assign Source Storage Location to MRP Area

  • Transaction: OMIZ or SPRO → Production → MRP → Planning → Define MRP Areas
  • Select the MRP Area for Sloc B.
  • In the "Storage Location for Stock Transfers" field, enter Sloc A as the source.
  • This tells MRP where to pull stock from when planning for Sloc B.

3. Check Material Master (MRP 4 View)

  • Ensure that the MRP Area is assigned to the material.
  • You can do this in the MRP Area-specific view of the material master (MM02).
  • The planning type should be set appropriately (e.g., PD for MRP).

4. Run MRP for the MRP Area

  • Transaction: MD03 (for single material) or MD01 (for total planning)
  • Make sure to select the MRP Area when running MRP.

Hope above solution help you.
