Material confirmation in WO

New to SAP so go easy on me! I have heard there is a way to verify the correct materials have been brought to production for a particular workorder. Our need is to have a machine operator scan the bar code of a WO and then scan the inventory labels for each of the materials, components, labels, etc that have been brought to his work station. If this is possible, how we set this up? TIA!
