Hi,
I am looking for an option to determine different Warehouse process types based on the nature of goods receipt.
I have three different receipt flows.
a) Loose parts receipt which needs to be packed before Final Putaway
b) Dock to Stock
c) Receipt, Quality Inspection and final Putway.
We are planning to use three different Warehouse process types to map above processes. In all of the above three processes the ERP document types is EL which is mapped to INB in EWM. I know we have WHPT indicator to differentiate different POSC however WH team is interested to control at a higher level ( Vendor or Document type ) instead of material level.
I explored to create different confirmation control keys assigned with different delivery types ( EL, ZEL1, ZEL2) so as to map EL - INB, ZEL1 - INB1 and ZEL2 - INB2. Unfortunately ERP would not allow me to create a new Internal confirmation Categories to trigger different Inbound delivery types.
So would like to check with experts to understand the best standard available option which would help me to determine different EWM document types for a single ERP document type.
Regards,

Hi Robert,
I recommend that you implement one of the BAdIs on the ERP side to manipulate the delivery type - I have done that on various occasions, works fine.
And, yes, there is a gap in the confirmation control which determines the ERP inbound delivery type, so using a BAdI is a common way of closing the gap.
Best regards
Andreas

Hi,
but: isn't changing the delivery type in the end not material / product driven as well?
Yes, it sometimes really feels like a limitation that the WPT type is based on a few parameters only, and that the warehouse process for inbound is part of the WPT. But in the cases you describe:
"a) Loose parts receipt which needs to be packed before Final Putaway
b) Dock to Stock
c) Receipt, Quality Inspection and final Putway."
isn't that all controlled by the material?
You could change the delivery type by a BAdI as proposed by Andreas. What would be the determination of the delivery type then be based on?
EDIT: Please disregard the following paragraph:
You can also set a confirmation control key for each item in the PO (you can not create different confirmation categories, but confirmation control keys). Best practice is to propose the key for the PO type / plant / storage location. But it can also be maintained in the vendor / material info record - which is probably not less maintenance then maintaining a WHPT indicator.
Additional note: and this is all crap I wrote in the paragraph before, because a different confirmation control key still does not change the fact that you can not add a new internal confirmation type, as you wrote before, so it does not help to find a different document type. Sorry for that. 🙂
I think any solution you find, is in the end not different then the standard solution - someone has to maintain for which material which process has to happen, and in addition you have a separate BAdI implementation.

And it is EWM. NOT eWM - Duh!
And if your question includes the word "transfer order" - do NOT tag the question with Extended Warehouse Management!

Jürgen,
looking at the initial question (again) I think you have a point - all three cases look "material-dependant". If so, there is no need to implement the BAdI mentioned on the ERP side.
I was thinking of cases which are determined by ERP processes, e.g. certified vendor (no quality inspection process required) vs. non-certified vendor (quality inspection process required).

Hello Andreas,
"I was thinking of cases which are determined by ERP processes, e.g. certified vendor (no quality inspection process required) vs. non-certified vendor (quality inspection process required)."
In that case the process even is flexible. The quality inspection step can be skipped, so you generally always find for the product the same process, but depending on if a quality inspection is required or not, you move the product to the quality inspection work center or not. This is also necessary for a skip lot process.
The required setting for that is that in the processoriented storage control you assign a bin to the process step (you have to assign a bin, as there is not determination table otherwise) AND set the flag for rule-based.
