Dear colleagues

I hope you are all doing well.

I am reaching out to request your guidance on an architecture-related topic.

We are currently implementing SAP S/4HANA and SAP Service and Asset Manager (SSAM), integrated with FSM for planning. In S/4HANA, we manage both Asset Management and IS-U processes.

My main question concerns the usage of SSAM:

Do we need to deploy two separate mobile applications—one for maintenance orders related to Asset Management and another for IS-U processes?

Or is it possible to manage both maintenance and IS-U scenarios within a single mobile application?

Additionally, regarding FSM, do we need to create separate companies, or can everything be managed within a single company setup?

Thank you very much for your support.

Kind regards,

Hi,

Initially, SAP Service and Asset Manager (SSAM) is a unified solution that allows you to manage both asset management and maintenance services, regardless of the business process (IS-U or any other). Therefore, there is no need to implement two separate mobile applications. You can use a single mobile application to manage both maintenance orders related to asset management and those associated with IS-U.

However, you should note that the design and configuration of the application may vary slightly depending on the specific requirements of each scenario. SAP SSAM offers flexibility in terms of configurations and functionalities that you can enable or disable based on the type of process you are managing, allowing you to have a single application for both types of processes. It will only be necessary to segment or differentiate the screens, functionalities, or roles according to the process you are managing (Asset Management or IS-U).

SAP Field Service Management (FSM) is designed to be as flexible as possible and allows you to configure and manage different scenarios within a single company instance or configuration. You do not need to create separate companies to manage different processes.

Instead of creating separate companies, FSM allows you to manage different operational units or entities within a single company configuration through service organizations and operational entities. This functionality will enable you to manage various maintenance and service processes within the same organizational structure without complicating the configuration with multiple instances.

However, if you have very specific needs or a high degree of complexity in the operation that justifies separating the configurations, you always have the option to implement additional configurations. But in most cases, managing everything from a single configuration is more efficient and cost-effective.

We have a similar solution, but what really helped us integrate everything was SAP Cloud Platform Integration (CPI). We had to develop an integration between SAP S/4HANA, SAP Field Service Management, and SAP Service Cloud, and it was through CPI that we were able to do so. Thanks to this integration, we only had to use the SAP FSM mobile app, without the need to implement any other additional applications.
