Is it pragmatic to run MRP in SAP IBP?

Hi everyone,

I'd very much appreciate if someone can give advices for the following question:

Situation: Our client is using Oracle EBS as their ERP, and Oracle ASCP as their supply chain planning system. Demand planning is outside, afterwards demand forecast is entered in Oracle EBS and then transferred to Oracle ASCP to run MRP & production planning; result after planning run (planned order, purchase requisition, stock transfer request) will be transferred from Oracle ASCP to Oracle EBS for execution. The client now consider to replace Oracle ASCP by SAP IBP.

Question: Does SAP IBP support MRP & production planning run down to lowest BOM level? and is it pragmatic to use SAP IBP in this problem?

Thank you.

Hi Duc,

As mentioned by Lingaiah, IBP Response and Supply has the Response Management area (i.e. Constrained Forecast Run, Confirmation Run) that creates purchase requisitions, planned orders and stock transfer requisitions to match demand.
Furthermore, even after sending these orders back to ERP and firming them, there's the Deployment Planning area, in which you can choose which order types can be transformed into Deployment STRs.

You may also refer to the SAP Help Portal Order-Based Planning and the recent webinar Meet the Expert: SAP IBP Operational Supply Planning - Deployment Planning, slide 6.

Best regards,
Matheus

Hi,

I would suggest to explore the SAP IBP Response and Supply module functionalities to fulfil your business requirements.

SAP Integrated Business Planning for response and supply enabling supply planning, supply review, and supply and allocations planning.

Hello Lingaiah,

We're also exploring the SAP IBP Response and Supply functionalities to find answers.

However, what I see from SAP document is that the design of SAP IBP R&S is not for operational MRP of every materials in BOMs; MRP is still designed to run in S/4HANA (or ERP in general), and SAP IBP R&S is supposed to run supply planning for mostly finished goods or semi-finished goods.

Now to fulfill this particular requirement, we need to "move" MRP completely from ERP to IBP R&S. Will this scenario work?

Regards,

Duc.
