IBP for demand: Best way to model stock KF

Hi community,

we would like to incorporate a time series based key figure for stock at location/product level based on a regularly updated SAP ECC extract into our demand planning process. Is there any recommendation of how to do this in an optimized way due to the "complexity" that stock isn't really time dependent but always visible in the first actual time bucket?

Can we make use of an already existing KF from supply planning or would it be a better option to think about time independent key figures in order to avoid an artificial rolling forward process for the stock key figure value?

Thanks for your recommendations.

Peter

P.S. The key figure also needs to be displayed in the respective planning books.

SAP6 by default is a demand planning area, and process-wise that does NOT include stock by standard, so yes you have to create the key figure manually, no other key figure will fit.

But if you have a second planning area in place which contains the stock, than just use the DISAGG operator to copy the value from there to your SAP6 planning area, instead of loading additionally from CPI-DS. The model config guide has an own chapter on that operator

Unfortunatly we are only using SAP6. Nevertheless we will define a new KF and trying to get a calculation logic in place which shifts the stock quantity always to the actual period in case it won't be reloaded on a regular basis.

Thanks for your expert reply.

Cheers, Peter

Hi Peter,

There is standard template available in CPI-DS to integrate stock on hand between ECC and IBP. This template loads stock only in current period. You can definitely use standard KF (INITIALINVENTORY) for this purpose.

Hi Peter

I dont fully understand your question:

If you copy e.g. SAPIBP1 planning area, you do have already a key figure for stock INITIALINVENTORY, see here

https://help.sap.com/viewer/feae3cea3cc549aaa9d9de7d363a83e6/1905/en-US/c9a19c55cfa8d007e10000000a44...

That key figure is on technical week level (product-location)

During the upload you need to make sure then that you whipe out existing values before you reload.

And no, stock must not be time-independent if you want to display it and if you want to calculate with it in any supply operator.

I assume you are not working with orderbased planning as you refer to the demand planning process.

Hi Irmi,

thanks for your fast feedback. We are using a copy of planning area SAP6 for demand. It seems I have the option to create yet another key figure which I am loading with stock values on a weekly basis always into the most recent bucket, i.e. I am taking manually care of loading and displaying stock in the correct bucket.

I was just wondering if I can either make use of a standard key figure out of another planning area which automatically pushes forward the stock value in case it does not get loaded regularily (or rolls into the past) or if I can make use of the time independent one.

best regards Peter
