Hi All,

How to update Number of Handling Units in Storage Bin in EWM. At the time of Bin creation, this filed is not editable filed.

Business case: The bin must contain maximum 24 Hus after that it should create WT for next empty bin for putaway process.

Hi,

that is not how this field works. This tab is for the strategy Pallet Storage (https://help.sap.com/viewer/9832125c23154a179bfa1784cdc9577a/2021.001/en-US/10cdcb53ad377114e10000000a174cb4.html), means the entry in this field is controlled by the settings in your strategy and the determined bin sectioning.

All the above is no official SAP statement.

Check for EWM courses: https://training.sap.com/trainingpath/Applications-Extended+Warehouse+Management-EWM+in+S4HANA

And it is EWM. NOT eWM - Duh!

And if your question includes the word "transfer order" - do NOT tag the question with Extended Warehouse Management!

Hi,

"Business case: The bin must contain maximum 24 Hus after that it should create WT for next empty bin for putaway process."

The standard way to control how many pallets you can putaway in a bin (for storage types which do not use bulk or pallet storage as strategy) is by "Capacity check in accordance with HU" : (https://help.sap.com/viewer/9832125c23154a179bfa1784cdc9577a/2021.001/en-US/73cccb53ad377114e10000000a174cb4.html). You assign the packaging material a capacity consumption of 1, the bin a capacity of 24 (for your example), activate that check in the storage type. That's it.

Hi Juergen,

Yes, i did that but capacity check is not working... Am i missing anything here.

I have done the following config:

1 - Capacity check in st.type (2) - Key figure pack.material

2 - Assign capacity usage 1 to pack.material in mm02

3 - At bin level, insert maximum capacity 2

4- Bin-sorting is correct

However, still system is creating all warehouse tasks for 1st Bin and capacity check is not working.

Hi,

"1 - Capacity check in st.type (2) - Key figure pack.material

2 - Assign capacity usage 1 to pack.material in mm02

3 - At bin level, insert maximum capacity 2"

That's how it should work.

What strategy settings and storage behavior do you have in your storage type?

Hi Juergen, Thanks for the help it worked with new inbound delivery...

"Business case: The bin must contain maximum 24 Hus after that it should create WT for next empty bin for putaway process."

Solution:

01. The standard way to control how many pallets you can putaway in a bin (for storage types which do not use bulk or pallet storage as strategy) is by "Capacity check in accordance with HU"

02. Assign the packaging material a capacity consumption of 1,

03. Maintain bin a capacity of 24 (for your example), activate that check in the storage type.

Hi Ashish,

Juergen has already posted the answer, just adding that you need to define bin section, number of handling units allowed for the bintype in SCM EWM > EWM > GR Process > Strategies > Putaway Rules > Storage Behavior: Pallets > Define Bin Sections.

This will restrict the number of HU's in the bin, but system will create 24 bin sections.
