How to track pallets across goods movements, deliveries, and production in S/4HANA Cloud Public Edit

Hi everyone,

One of our customers needs to keep track of pallets throughout the supply chain — from goods receipt and  to production and outbound deliveries — using SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition.

Has anyone implemented pallet tracking successfully in S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition?
What configuration or workaround did you use?
Any tips or best practices would be greatly appreciated!

Pallets are tracked with Handling Unit Management functionality. However, notice that in general case it is not possible to track a pallet through the entire supply chain i.e. from goods receipt, through production till outbound delivery as a pallet/handling unit is a transient object - a raw material is received on a pallet/handling unit, then it is moved to production, once the raw material on the pallet is fully consumed, the pallet is gone. Even if the product is received on another pallet, there is no functionality to tell that a given pallet of a product was produced from a given pallet of a raw material. 

If you need this kind of tracking, you need to use Batch Management 

and Batch Where-Used List which is available in Batch Information Cockpit
