How to create packaging instructions for Reference Material in EWM .docx

Dear EWM Experts,

Can anyone please tell me how to create packaging instructions for Reference Material in EWM if it is possible?

Here is how we create packaging instructions for a Reference Material in ECC 6.0 and I would like to know how to create the packaging instructions in EWM in the same way.

1) Packaging instruction is created for reference material (Item category ‘R’)

2)All materials that are packed in the same way are assigned to a reference material in material master:

In the above example, 8 FERT materials are assigned to the same Reference Material 398653 and Packaging instruction is created just for the Reference Material.

Any help on this is greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

Kind regards,

Lakshmi

Hi,

not that much different actually.

You create a regular packaging specification for reference product and you assign this reference product to the products which should use this packaging specification (to be more exact, this is the material master back in ERP).

The only trick is that in the condition record for the packaging specification you need to use the field "reference product" (PAK_REFMATID) so that it can be determined.

And it is EWM. NOT eWM - Duh!
And if your question includes the word "transfer order" - do NOT tag the question with Extended Warehouse Management!

Hi Juergen,

Thank you for your prompt response. I have a question related to use the field "reference product" (PAK_REFMATID) in the condition record for the packaging specification.

I checked the customizing:

SPRO -> EWM -> Cross-Process Settings-> Condition Technique ->Create Access Sequences

Application: PAK

Usage: PS

The access sequence “0PAL (Palletization Data)” has only one conditional table SAPPAL01 with two fields: PAK_LOCID and PAK_MATID. The condition table SAPPAL01 doesn’t have the field "reference product" (PAK_REFMATID).

I also checked the access sequence “0IBD (Inbound Delivery)”. It also has only one condition table SAPIBD01 and this condition table also doesn’t have the field "reference product" (PAK_REFMATID).

I see the field "reference product" (PAK_REFMATID) only in the condition table SAPDKS01 that was assigned to the Access Sequence 0DKS (Deconsolidation).

Here is my question:

Why didn’t SAP provided the field "reference product" (PAK_REFMATID) in the standard condition table SAPPAL01 that was used for access sequence “0PAL (Palletization Data)”?

Do we have to create our own access sequence copying from the existing access sequence “0PAL (Palletization Data)” and create own condition table copying from standard conditional table SAPPAL01 and add the additional field “reference product" (PAK_REFMATID) from the field catalog to the custom condition table?

Any help on this is appreciated!

Kind regards,
Lakshmi

Hi,

"Why didn’t SAP provided the field "reference product" (PAK_REFMATID) in the standard condition table SAPPAL01 that was used for access sequence “0PAL (Palletization Data)”?"

Why is something you should never ask. Simply kept simple, not all customers use reference products.

"Do we have to create our own access sequence copying from the existing access sequence “0PAL (Palletization Data)” and create own condition table copying from standard conditional table SAPPAL01 and add the additional field “reference product" (PAK_REFMATID) from the field catalog to the custom condition table?"

You would create your own condition table, but not add the that field (you do not want the fields PAK_MATID AND PAK_REFMATID in one condition record). What else you create new or copy existing data, is up to you. You only need to remember to add everything new to the condition maintenance group.

Hi Juergen,

Can we use a VERP material as reference product (or) does it have to be a FERT material only?

We used a FERT material as reference product and created packaging specification for that reference product. I would like to know if we can use any other material types like VERP for creating the reference product.

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

Lakshmi

Hi,

"Can we use a VERP material as reference product (or) does it have to be a FERT material only?"

I do not think that the material type (is it type?) does matter. But VERP is for packaging material... So you have a pack spec which describes how to pack a packaging material?

Thank you and I agree with you, Juergen. From functionality point, it doesn't make any sense to use a VERP packaging material as reference product when creating packaging specifications. But I was not sure if system also restricts from using a VERP material in packaging specification for reference product.

Thanks again for your prompt response.

Kind regards,
